I looked at the list of stuff they're offering this year and it seemed a bit boring (like last year). But I support my local independent record shop all year round, though.

However, don't let me piss on anyone's cornflakes - go for it chaps!

We don't have any local record stores here. They were all pushed out of business by "bloody HMV" a few years ago, and the local HMV now no longer stocks records.

I'll pop into my local (to work) record store tonight and see what's left.

Nothing really jumped out on the list to be honest. I suspect there will be some long queues already this morning which is a good thing for the trade.

It's a good day for music...but probably one of the only days I don't buy records! Feeding frenzy with no time to browse.

The only LP I'm interested in is classified as a "record day first release"; so, I'll just pick it up when it comes out later. I called both of my favorite stores. The first said it didn't know what they would have on hand for record day. The other said it would have "one" copy of it in the special events room (at the back of the store) and I might want to be waiting in line outside at 7 AM. The doors open at 8 AM. Which means I'd need to drive 30 - 45 mins; get there at 6 AM and wait in 3 degrees C weather, realistically, just to get a shot at running with the herd. Nah, I'll pass. I spend enough there yearly to sit this one out.

I was planning to have a look in at the one and only independent record shop in Ipswich, but unfortunately they're not doing it this year - what's that all about???

Was at Head Records Belfast at around 8am this morning....not looking for much apart from 'The Glove' and Lanois 'Acadie'. A great atmosphere in Head Belfast and truly great staff. My only neg observation would be that no one in their right mind would pay £15 for a 7" single! Thats not a reflection on the shop BTW which I love with a passion. A more helpful crowd you would be hard pushed to find.

Took a little stroll to HMV after to look for the LOTR Blu Ray box which apparently was reduced across the country. No sign. I did notice they had moved their vinyl display racks though.......RIGHT INTO THE FULL GLARE OF THE SUN AT THE WINDOW!!! I couldn't help myself so sauntered up to the three staff having a chat.
Me....'hey you know that vinyl will be unplayable by lunch time?'
They....'What vinyl?'
Me.....'You know RECORDS?'
They.....'Where?'
Me....'By the window in the sun'
They....'On the counter?'
Me....'NO ON THE RECORD DISPLAY RACK!!!'
They....'Where?'
Me.....'IN THE SUN BY THE BLOODY WINDOW.....THEY ARE COOKING!!!'
They.....'Oh those.......flip thats not good is it?.....Was there anything in particular you were looking for?'
Me....'Nope I wouldn't buy a vinyl record from here sorry'
They...'OK'
I left them to it with their vinyl slowly melting.

I decided to pop into Sister Ray on the way to work tonight. It's normally a bit quiter around 19:00.

After making my way down past a very busy Phonica and a bloody loud BM Music I turned into Berwick street only to be confronted by a looooooooong queue just to get into the shop.

I don't do queues anymore so i'll try tomorrow night...:(

we popped around the corner to another record shop called Borderline where there was no Que so managed to bag a few bits including See Emily Play on white vinyl, Human League, Ultravox and a Brian Eno Grizzly Bear track, my Mate just nabbed the Last Miles Davis Milestones album :doh:

Went past Resident again a few hours later and the Que was still over 2 hours long, i have never seen so many Vinyl freaks of all ages and gender

For those of you about to hit the clicker for a fleeceBay deal (like the Mad Season record for 40, 70... 300!!!! What!?!) WAIT!!!, just know that many online dealers are now listing this and others for pre-order and such... for 35. :lol:

I'm trying to decide if I should feel bad for all those who got suckered or give the one fingered salute to those who got stuck (or will get stuck) with stuff they can no longer make a profit on by gauging others. :scratch:

i got advised by staff at my fave local indy store to wait the following week and source scumbay, lo and behold i have several releases I wanted for less than they were being sold, I thank you. :ner:
