Power supply to preamp

I know the general consensus when using a mains filter (Belkin PF40 in this case) is to plug the amp into the mains directly but does this include both pre and power amps?

What do others do? :scratch:

Surely, if you are going to use a filter, all your (mains) equipment should use filtered power, as any spikes etc., will feed across the system from units that are getting a 'dirty' supply.

Some claim that these type of inline filter strangle the supply a bit which may introduce a new issue.

I would just go with whatever sounds best to you.

Depends on the amp, it's topology and what it draws from the mains I guess. I have a big linear supply that feeds my pair of chip amps. Sounds better to me with the supply plugged into the Belkin, I suppose because of the low power requirements.

I prefer my amp plugged into the amp socket on my PF30. Try it and see.

I've been listening to the Croft plugged into the PF40 for a couple of days and it definitely sounds better plugged directly into the mains. Through the PF40 the treble has great clarity but some of the bass is sucked out of the music. It loses a lot of its impact.

I'm plugged back into the mains for good now. :)
