A Greatest hits of Ennio Morricone film scores. (Compilation released in 2004)

Morricone has written hundreds of musical pieces (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ennio_Morricone), he hit the big time in the early 60's when he teamed up with movie director Sergio Leone to work on music for his famous Spaghetti Westerns.

These films just would not be the same without his unique sound.

Who can possibly not get shivers watching the final scene from The Good The Bad and The Ugly. In my opinion the greatest film scene ever made, but without the music

Here it is in HD :D

So that was the start of his success and there are plenty more recent gems to enjoy on this album.

I gave this album a 5. I enjoyed the first few tracks, especially Chi Mai from 'The Life and Times of David Lloyd George' and recognised quite a few of the others. I feel there was a bit of a lack of variety in tempo and style (too much strings for example) and by the end was getting a bit impatient for the tracks to finish.

Looking at Morricone's discography he has had an amazing career, and I agree that the video show how much the music adds to the movie scene.

I have a couple of movie soundtrack albums - Maurice Jarre's Lawrence of Arabia is very evocative of Arabia and I very much enjoyed Yo-Yo Mar playing 'cello on the soundtrack to Master and Commander - Far Side of the World for example.

Thanks for sharing this interesting work.

Lawrence

Nice one Dave, I bought this purely for the Spaghetti Western tracks but was delighted with the other music some I was not familiar with but now love.

I love Morricone and have a different compilation of his film music. Very visual and goes well with the films concerned. That scene at the end of TGTBATU is epic and has always been one of my favourite film moments. As stand-alone music it's slightly less effective but still wonderful. 8/10.

Lots of familiar stuff here, but not really my cup of tea - just 6/10, I'm afraid.
