I have been watching the coverage on the BBC News Channel all night and it makes for grim viewing. The latest speculation is that it may be a home grown nut along the lines of Timothy McVeigh. The reasoning behind this is that Al-Qaeda and their associates are always quick to bask in the success of such missions. My heart goes out to all who have been affected.

Our media has been pushing that idea since this all started.
B.S. there where 3 bombs that worked one was in the JFK library but of a different type. Bombs where found that where unexplored, this was a coordinated attack.

The BBC is reporting that the statement which mentions other devices has been withdrawn. The local Police and National Guard had been investigating reports of suspicious packages but apparently all they have found so far are bags and personal effects left by those evacuated from the area. Can you post a link to a website which is reporting these other devices please Jeff?

I found this report particularly refreshing for its honesty: http://www.redstate.com/dloesch/2013/04/16/the-grotesque-politicization-of-the-boston-bombing/

I just got home from work, and I have only been able to hear bits and pieces on the radio in my office, that I spend very little time in.
They have a Saudi man in his 20's( he is 20 years old and on a student visa) being questioned at a hospital.
I am just getting a lot of info as I am typing.

I would strongly suggest you don't look at picture 8 - frankly its one of the worst photos I have ever seen.

The bombs used where classic Mujahideen style bombs used by Osama's nowTaliban in Pakistan and Afghanistan and some times south India.
The bombs where made from pressure cookers filled with large ball bearings and nails.
My best guess would be cell phone activated.
There is a picture of a man on the roof he was most likely the trigger man watching for the most people to be near them.

These kinds of people are heartless bastards, they fill a room with baby chicks and test new young recruits for their willingness to kill by having them stomp every last baby chick to death, to belong to these terror groups they are taught to be heartless from birth.

You can't hope for peace with psychos .

Also the politics involving the suspects race, Solan Magazine a Democrat propaganda rag had this to say." Let's hope the Bombers are white males"

Nope, they're pure vermin and of zero use to humanity. Death by lethal injection is too good for them.

Personally, I'd bring back hanging for these animals, but not before they were locked in a room alone for an hour with the families of the victims of their deplorable actions.....

But I like the way you think!

You have to make the fuckers SUFFER beyond their wildest imagination FIRST before killing their ass. Simply equip the family members with some scalpels, hydrofluoric acid (http://ehs.unc.edu/environmental/docs/hydrofluoricacid.pdf), chainsaws, machetes, red-hot pokers, baseball bats covered in rusty razor blades and a large tank of the most volatile piranha fish on earth, and leave it to their imagination how they use the various 'tools' at their disposal.....

You keep the fuckers alive just enough so that they're still aware of what's happening to them, then take whatever is left of their sorry asses to the gallows, where they're hung in such a way that they choke *slowly* to death.

Job done! :acid:

When the Western world stops interfering in the affairs of foreign powers much of this unpleasantness will cease. That doesn't justify what has occurred of course.

A salient history lesson: The West, more specifically the United States, funded Osama Bin Laden'e freedom fighters in Afghanistan to the tune of billions of dollars to fight the Russian occupationist forces on their behalf back in the day. They literally created Al Qaeda when they dropped Bin Laden like a stone once the Russian forces pulled out of Afghanistan. Their constant meddling in Arab affairs over the decades has born fruit and we are reaping that bitter harvest. Anyone who thinks the West are innocent needs to read up on actual history and not the fairy tale version which is so espoused in Western society. We need to wake up to what is being done in our name...

Muslims have the same philosophy except their family is Islam in its entirety, which is why things are the way they are. We attack them with the latest technology, the product of multi-billion dollar black projects and they can't match that technology, therefore they employ insidious but effective means to strike back. They hit us where it hurts the most because we do the same. We are at war in all but name.

I have mentioned Afghanistan already but we just don't learn from our mistakes. I am sorry Jeff but your nation is at the forefront of foreign interventionism and f*cking about with another nations culture is almost always going to end in tears, and my God don't us Brits know it. Lets take Iraq shall we? Oil was the dish of the day in Gulf War II - The Sequel, plus Baby Bush wanted to finish the job his old man started, so him and his neo-con buddies came up with some cockamamie story about Saddam having weapons of mass destruction. History has since taught us that this was a lie, and who created Saddam the man? Oh yeah, that'll be good ole Uncle Sam when he pumped billions of dollars into Saddams regime so that he could make war on Iran. Why? Because Ayatollah Khomenei kicked his buddy, the Shah, out of office and Uncle Sam wanted revenge, and we wonder why they hate us

I do not condone what is being done by Islamic extremists, two wrongs don't make a right, but I do absolutely understand why they do it. Weapon for weapon suicide bombers are Al Qaeda's Laser Guided Bombs and they are just as effective. Perhaps more so because they are delivered with conviction whereas a fighter jock delivers his particular flavour of death and destruction from 35 miles away. The only difference is the delivery system and theirs is more effective because it is delivered personally. I will not countenance a lack of responsibility when it comes to civilians either. The US and UK are democratic nations, WE are responsible for the governments in power because we put them there, therefore we are as responsible for the atrocities carried out in our name. Ergo: we are legitimate targets. I am as guilty as the government of the day and I am ashamed of my countries involvement in these manufactured conflicts. Am I an idealist? Perhaps, but I'd rather be an idealist than a sheep. What I have written here may not be fashionable, but it is the truth and I cannot stand idly by and watch the Hawks on both sides rip our world asunder without stating my opinion...

I don't disagree at all with what you say Dave, but all the factions in this drama are constantly looking BACKWARDS to justify their actions, so when will any of them have the strength and guts to stop and think what will call a halt to these perpetual history based tit-for-tat type of actions?

I saw that very same cycle occurring again and again in Northern Ireland and although there is a form of "peace" there now the old resentments still churn away unresolved under the surface, which wouldn't take too much to re-ignite.

No cause however righteous justifies the deliberate targeting of civilians. Western nations have never done that. Anyone who can put a bomb in a shopping centre or street and detonate it knowing that women and children will be killed and maimed cannot use history to justify their actions. They are mad dogs and need to be treated as such. They do not deserve our consideration.

I know what you meant Martin but civilians are usually the target, Dresden being just one such horror, and there have been plenty since.

One aspect of this is the way that our pre-conceptions are directing us toward identification of the perpetrators.
One balanced commentary on this is http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-us-canada-22191030

In particular this section - "Having grown up in the aftermath of 9/11, Hussain worries that this generation of Muslims could be bullied because of the blasts - especially if the person responsible is a Muslim. The sad truth is that regardless of the facts, people are already getting unfairly stereotyped," says Hussain.
"We're all on the edge of our seats praying that the person who did these acts isn't a Muslim. We're tired of being blamed for the actions of one person."

It seems to be a knee-jerk reaction that manages to irritate the hell out of islamic countries as they are all tarred with the same brush, and that can hardly be surprising since even they know the lunatics among them are a very small percentage......

Perhaps but that's my point, we did exactly that during the Crusades. Yes, a long time ago, but humans have a very long memory for atrocity. Not saying it justifies what is happening, but it explains why it is happening. Attitudes are learned at an early age.

(In reply to Martin)

I very much doubt there is a single country or faith that hasn't been guilty of an "atrocity" at some point in history. Technology and civilisation of our species has vastly overtaken the speed of human evolution - we're still trying to fight against our primeval instincts and not doing a very good job!

synsei
19-04-2013, 19:09
As a species we have a lot of growing up to do. There are bad people in every society and in the past these types have been dealt with by the rules and laws laid down by whichever culture they happen to operate in. In today's world however there seems to be a 'one size fits all' policy towards justice which has mainly been promoted by Western nations. Sometimes however cultural differences are pushed aside, especially when the West decides to throw its not inconsiderable weight into the fray, often without any consideration for the historical provenance of such cultures. The sheer arrogance of that is disturbing.

It would seem that one of the two culprits of the Boston bombing is dead, killed in a shoot out with Police officers. The other is on the run and he is thought to be contained somewhere within a locked down suburb of the city. Interestingly the two brothers are of Chechen origin. The Muslim population of the US can now breath a sigh of relief, not that they should need to of course...

WOStantonCS100
20-04-2013, 05:30
Chechen, Muslim, Russian, British, Italian, American, Mexican, African or just dumb @-- f--- , I don't give a $---. Two individuals took it upon themselves to maim and kill people they did not know and who had not wronged them for whatever idealistic BS reason(s) they had swirling 'round in their heads; judge, jury, executioner. I'll not lose sight of that. That's selfish, premeditated manslaughter.... Eat a bullet... ...and just know that was the easy way out. As for their relatives... no grudge. Personal responsibility/accountability (a lost notion in this day and age) means you deal directly and then you're done. The world is as f'd up as it is because NO ONE ANYWHERE, heeds that; not the Russians, not the US, not the UK, not China, not Mexico, NO ONE. Some are just better at hiding their involvement when the seas get rough. But, "everybody" would rather indulge in mob mentality and slap fights than be honest. Let's pull back the sheet and just call a rusty spanner, a rusty spanner.

This will all be "over" soon. The concentration should now be on the survivors and their families/friends, healing and peace.

Back when I was a teenager my favorite cousin (the one who gave me so many of her 45 rpm records) and one of my great aunts were viciously stabbed to death in their house by the assailant. Never once did I consider slapping together an IED and blowing up innocent people who were of his same ethnic background. He was found, arrested, tried, convicted and jailed. That was the end of the story for me. Yes, that shady part of my family got to him in jail and exacted that same toll on him; but, I was not a part of that nor had any knowledge of it until sometime later. And still, they didn't just go after anyone. They went after he who was responsible and dealt with him. I'm not condoning it or saying that was right, under the law (it wasn't); but, at least the mindset wasn't to just start killing... ...anyone... anywhere... to "make a point". Things are so utterly ridiculous, now.

Ok, I'm done.

I'm certainly not offended. I just wish the world was different. I want/wanted those bastards to die in the worst way; but, just those guys. I don't want to play the labeling game that frees people up to think that they can liberally kill off whole groups of people. Anyone who belongs to a stereotyped group knows the rhetoric all too well... those Mexicans, these black people, those white people, the Jews, women, politicians, Swedes, Londoners, those crank transvestites over on AoS... These differences should bring us together to learn more about one another; but, on both sides of the fence we just group folks together to fit our particular stance, often to the detriment of the human race. Should I hate an Arab just because he's an Arab or a Saudi or a Jehovah's witness or someone who still has a record player ;) ? No. I take issue with anyone who threatens my life, certainly. And, to a lesser extent the one who tries to prevent me from feeding my family. It's not the name it's the action; not the word, the deed; not the talk, the intent. Real martial arts is the direct opposite of today's mentality. Fighting is the preferable last option. I can't fight everybody and the odds quickly go out of my favor the more enemies I have. (However, when required, make it count and get it over with quickly and decisively.) I'm tired. I hope some of what I'm saying makes sense.

I feel bad for Israel they have had to see there children blown up for years now no place is safe from bombs,or missals.

I pointed out 2 sects of Islam that dose not tolerate any other religion but Islam.

In fact Salam means peace but peace can only be achieved when everyone by choice or by sword converts to Islam , There definition not mine.

That is what I hate.
No one should be forced to submit to another s religion by fear of death or terror.

I am not in the same category as people who blindly kill others of a different faith.
If a religion teaches killing all others then civilized people must remove that religion from the Earth all it's books and temples until it is forever forgotten.

The fact is there is no longer a peaceful solution.
Look where peace talks over how manny years has gotten Israel.
We must admit this isn't going to go away and find a way to end it.
And that may not be a pretty sight but it is where we are at right now.
The whole thing is a pointless debate anyway as none of the stuff any of us has to say will affect the people with the authority to do something about all this so I am going to say one more time.
I am not hateful of peaceful Muslims, My wife is from Pakistan my son is half Pakistani.
We know very good people who are Muslim and I am not talking about those folks.
My apology's for being to general , the point I am trying to make is like Christians there are different groups, and I named 2 groups who's fundamental principals require them to kill the rest of us.
And we should not tolerate that.

God forgives all (apparently). Shame I'm an atheist.

I believe not in revenge, but at least keeping the score somewhat more than even. Woe betide anyone intending me and mine harm!

The creature the Americans have just seized, will of course be given fine medical treatment and kept in isolation so he doesn't come to harm (before trial, sentence and punishment). Natural law should apply and what would be more natural than to hand the creature over to the families of the bereaved and injured to be dealt with.

I have a vivid imagination when it comes to bad stuff. I won't go into detail, but my way of dealing with it would involve an electric carving knife, caustic soda and a blowtorch.

Whereabouts in North West Pakistan was that Chris?

Twenty five years ago, whilst on my travels, I left Sinkiang province in western China, via the Karakorum Highway, and entered Pakistan in the Hunza valley. It was like a breakthrough into shangri-la: Karimabad is/was an especially beautiful place. The population there follow the Ishmali sect of Islam, and even then you had to be very careful, as a foreigner, not to talk to unaccompanied women, for fear that they might later come to harm.

Jeff, I think you know that I spent four and a half years of my young life living in the far north-west of Pakistan - an area which you know is exceptionally troubled, so I'm not exactly unaware of both sides of this situation but what you suggested as an 'answer' was exactly what you mention in the quote above.
I think this subject is best left for now.

Ok, I meant no offence as this Bombing has really upset me having a near 4 year old and not wanting to even think about him being hurt by a terrorist.

I did not know you spent time in Pakistan , I am going to stop posting on this now.

And just pray the mass killing and maiming stops.

P.S. I have never suggested for a second mass bombings or killings of anyone but military strikes on specific sites that I believe to hold weapons.
And will reduce the moral of the enemy, I want to make that clear.
I could have done a better job of explaining it in my post.

I wasn't serious. It is a serious matter though.

I would like to apologize for comments I made in this thread.
I got upset and said things I do not mean.
Some of it was for shock value and to be provocative.
The site was down or it would have been sooner.
I would like to apologize to Chris, Marco and Dave especially
If my comments offended anyone else,I am sorry.

We sometimes forget on this side of the pond that as big a country as the United States is, in certain matters there is a strong consensus amongst the population and terrorism and all its aspects is one such matter. I firmly believe that the US is the proverbial 'Bull in a china shop' and that sometimes it forgets just how big and powerful it is. Consequently, when it manoeuvres on the world stage it is inevitable that some of that china is gonna get broke (sic). It shouldn't happen but it does and afterwards the whole world works like billy-o in an attempt sweep up the resulting mess. However Uncle Sam, we still love you, you great big lummox you... :ner:

Perhaps as time grinds slowly on we will begin to learn to appreciate and celebrate our differences rather than see them in a negative light... We can only hope, because without hope there is despair...

That's very big of you Jeff - and Dave has summed it up very well. I think we can all understand why - these events are especially emotive when you are on the receiving end, and we certainly won't hold it against you! :)

This is obviously a very sore subject and emotions run high. All i will say is:

The people who did this are cowards and i hope the younger brother survives so that he can spend the rest of his life in prison where he belongs, death is to good for him!

My heart goes out to everyone who was affected by this, it is a tragedy and should not have happened.

And finally a big well done for all of the people who helped the injured on the day, especially people who had run the marathon and then went straight to a hospital to donate blood, you are legends.

Jeff (the o/p) has already expressed his regret at things said and we feel that it's best to put this thread to rest now as nothing more need be said.
