Hello everybody,

My name is Martin, and I'm an audioholic...

And a lover of music, and life in general :)

I have been lurking on a few audio forums recently, trying to see if there are any with which I could see myself taking part in, and hopefully contributing and learning from for the foreseeable future. After reading through many posts, and getting a feel for how the forum behaves, and also reading through the ‘Ethos’ page, I new this was the one I wanted to join.

My musical tastes

I think, like most people, I have a very broad taste when it comes to music. But, If I had to have one foot firmly in one camp, I would have to say, I’m a bit of a ‘Metal Head’ I can’t seem to get enough Rammstein at the moment, but also love listening to Kyuss, AC/DC, Black Sabbath, Motorhead to name but a few.

Then there is also the Rock Gods, Led Zeppelin, The Who, Bowie………

I also have an affliction towards Electronic, and Electro pop – Kraftwerk, Gary Numan, Depeche mode, Robyn. And the list goes on….

Then there is pop, punk, blues, classical. I think you may get the idea.

Edit - forgot to mention one of my all time favourite bands, 'Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds'. I have seen these live more than any other band. I wonder if anybody spotted the link with my user name?

My music System

I was a bit of a Naim fan (and still am to a certain extent), and my system comprised of a CDX2, NAC202, NAP200, Allae’s, and a Rega P5 with Exact Cartridge.

Unfortunately, about 3 years ago, due to work issues (or should I say lack of), money had to be found from somewhere to pay the mortgage, so sadly but necessary, this little lot had to go :(

Now that I have managed to get back to the land of the living, I have a slightly different outlook when it comes to spending my hard earned, so my current system comprises of –

CD - Rega Apollo-R Bought new in January 2013
Amp - Pioneer A400 Bought new by me a very long time ago.
Speakers - Rega R5 Bought new when I sold my Allae’s (Fantastic deal, just as the RS5’s came out)
Stand - Atacama Equinox AV
Cables - Chord Cobra, Chord Epic Twin

Looking towards the future

I am currently looking to buy a new turntable, and by the end of the week, I will be in a position to buy one. :D

Apart from the nature of this forum, one of the other reasons I wanted to join, was because of the depth of knowledge of a certain turntable.
Yes, you may have guessed, I am about to become a Techie (or is that Techie owner?). I thought long and hard about which turntable to buy, and I will probably start another thread about this. But I have made my mind up on a Techie, and I cannot wait to be able to play my vinyl records again.

I am looking forward to being able to contribute to you all in a positive way, and also to gain invaluable knowledge that is held within this forum. This I am sure well help me and others, in the enjoyment of music for the future.

Bye for now.

Martin

Welcome Martin

The first step to a cure is to admit the problem. It sounds like you have quite a severe case. I'm afraid I can't offer any advice, I too suffer withdrawal when I can't listen to vinyl.

Fantastic introduction there Martin - textbook, in fact - have a gold star! ;)

My wife "can't seem to get enough of Rammstein at the moment" either - with hindsight, perhaps I shouldn't have bought her the box set... :eyebrows:

Thank you all for a warm welcome. I'm looking farward to chatting with you all, and sharing my musical journey.

Just finished work, and need to scan that well known internet auction site. Friday is almost here, and new turntable beckons. Need to make sure I get a good one :)

Oh yes, I need to jump over to the 'Techiepedia' sub-forum as well. Lots to take in, and no doubt, many questions to ask.

See you all inside.

Martin

PS. Alex UK - That is a box set to send a shiver up your spine !!

Hi Martin, Welcome to a fantastic forum and place to be, good vibes and a heck of a lot of helpful people keen to share all our experience and knowledge - you definately made a good choice. As for the Techie, lets just say it's a great deck that responds to upgrades. You can take it as far as you like with the Techie, some say you'll need deep pockets:lol: You wont regret it though, I should know ;) Enjoy !!
