Visit 2 to Tarzan Towers

Went to visit Tarzan ( Andy ) today and spent a very enjoyable 4.5 hours listening to toons and doing some box swapping ,

and some beer drinking :D

I left my Croft withe Andy for some listening pleasure

Its a shame Senior Daftee lives so far away :D or he could have joined in and listened to some quality Hi-Fi and TAT :D

A brief summary of yesterdays musical hulabaloo... Al arrived with two carrier bags each with a JBL Loudspeaker in, a CRoft pre-amp, a Goldring Eroica and some beer. We put the Audio World to rights got accustomed to my system then got the JBL's out:fingers: holy crap are these a rock speaker or what! a big bass with kick drums my Harbs would run away from, and a big wide open soundstage that was expansive, very open and the imaging was as l said to Al was " vivid" add to this all the presence and musicality you could throw a spade at l can see why these are a " cult" speaker, Al's TAT Micheal Jackson albums sounded really good as odviously the producer knew his trade alright.


Then we plumbed the Croft pre in and listened to that phono stage- very nice, but not as good as last time we had a meet, what was different- oh yeah the power cable ( cable non believers turn your lap top off now), l put a Nordost Shiva on the Croft ( as per last time) and bingo a really exciting and musical sound- velly good, we were getting some really good sound l thought.


Next we plumbed the Harbs back in and a TOTALLY different sound resulted, a lot more cleaner, refined sound, but none of the air, excitement of the JBL's it really is horses for courses.

So in summary;


Learned yesterday;

1.Got me thinking about speakers.

2. l need to loose some weight.

3.Rogie really loves Al.

4.Micheal Jackson could sing.



5. TAT records are where its at baby

6. Al hates the Magic Eraser as a stlus cleaner

7. He has an excellent camera.

8. Marco cannot tell the difference between a CD and a vinyl LP:ner::lol:

9. AL is well on his way to Audio nirvana.

10. Power cables can make a dramatic difference.

Hi Andy are those non standard knobs on the Croft? I only ask as all the one's i've seen (including mine) are silver.

Those black plastic ones are the older style Dave - the silver ones came in 2 or 3 years ago I think.

Didn't realise these were fetching silly money now, I've got a mint, twice played copy. I prefer the CD. I find the vinyl LP a bit flat sounding in comparison (no, it's not my TT setup letting things down).
