I think we should bomb them. With leaflets that is. Tell them what life is like elsewhere so they overthrow the government.

Unlikely to make any difference whatsoever Jerry, even if there was enough of a groundswell of opinion opposed to the government, they would be too frightened to speak out and even less prepared to take action. North Korea is what it is and not likely to change anytime soon.

IMHO China could stabilize N.K, I don't think they want anything other than a peaceful region and the opportunity to trade. Equally I don't think the USA fears China the way it did in the past and would prefer dealing with them.
This article suggests that the health of the average Chinese person is pretty good, certainly the government are doing what they can to provide universal health care:

No system is perfect Jeff. I wouldn't like to be poor and sick in your country. I think you should cut China some slack and think how far they have come in the last few years. There are millions now enjoying a fair standard of living and their expectations are increasing as well.

If you are truly sick in our country FREE health care in any Emergency room has been provided for years and years,in fact some hospitals and ER's where forced to close along the borders with Mexico because they where over whelmed with sick Illeagle aliens.
Expecting the U.S. to provide free health care for all who come here is just not possible. England is lucky to be an Island with out millions of poor daily coming in for free stuff, paid for by we the most hated " Americans".

You are sadly misinformed about our illegal immigrants. Per head of the native population I suspect we may have a higher ratio in the UK than you do in the USA. Our government actually admits it has no idea how many we are hosting (and paying for).
As for China you cannot tar a whole nation with the same brush. I've worked in Singapore (which has a vast majority Chinese population) for a while some time ago and found many of them to be totally untrustable as far as keeping their word or meaning what they say but I also found a significant number who were as 'normal' as you or me in our relations with others. More than 30 years later I am happy to still call one of them a friend.
IMHO it has nothing to do with them being Communist, it has more to do with the way they are brought up in a very controlled society. The oldest male in the family is treated with utmost respect, far more than in our society, and their word is 'law' amongst the younger members of his family. Their village is similarly controlled by the local 'mayor' (but not as we understand 'mayor'), who in turn is similarly controlled by the local area 'head honcho' and so on up to the top man.
IMHO it is not valid to equate 'Communist' with 'evil' - is the USA population as brain washed into believing that as the Chinese were into believing all USA 'capitalist dogs' are the Devil incarnate?

Judging by the amount of "deadlines" issued by the Kid that have been and gone, it is highly likely it is a case of bluff and bluster to get some attention. He needs to go across a man's knee for a damn good spanking. Spoilt brat :rolleyes:

Don't think the brat with Nike shoes is the one to watch, it's those shady generals in the background he calls ''uncle'' you need to watch,
China will just let it roll and destabilise that region and give the U.S. skid marks before they reel in the young one,
as ultimately they are the one's with the cards close to their chest, hence Kerry has gone there (i don't think he'll raise his voice either)

Conscripts, with obsolete equipment, probably still playing with the old Soviet echelon tactics that are completely outdated. Numbers mean nothing, Saddam Hussein had the fourth largest army in the world, it didn't help him much. It's nothing more than sabre rattling for political gain. If they really did attack the south it would be a disaster with a lot of collateral damage, but it would be over in a couple of days, I doubt they would get more than 5 miles closer to Seoul before the wheels came off.

Don't disagree, however as you say, a lot of people would be killed.
Kim and the Generals live the good life no matter how screwed their country is. If they start a war and lose = as they must know they would - they lose all that. Not a gamble they will take IMO.
IMO China is playing a long game - whatever happens they will come out of it best (as seen through their eyes). ATM I suspect they are enjoying the USA's discomfort - they could stop the NK shenanigans any time they want. The little fat turd III is probably dancing to their tune anyway - he can't afford to say "No" to China or his life jacket would immediately deflate to the level of most of his subjects.
When it suits them best China will calm the situation having got something out of it for themselves.

I'm 72 years old, seen a lot of life and a bit of the world and tend to be increasingly cynical as I get older - that's what you are reading :) .

Seriously, the only thing that matters to the average Chinese guy is not to be seen 'losing face' - in other words to be able to show some gain from any situation they have been involved with. The higher up the scale you are in which the situation is being played out, the higher are your chances of persuading others of the the 'gain' that you have made. Disputing that 'gain' can make you very unpopular.
And so to bed as the Open Golf is not very entertaining this year :( .
