Anyone heard the Lowther TP1 Horn?

I gather that they might lack vertical dispersion from the front horn?
That kind of front horn could be a easy/cheap way to front load the driver with only having one curved profile. Just musing....

The main reason I ask is that I have been playing with the speakers right up into the corners, and they dont sound at all rubbish, a LOT of toe-in so they cross in front of the listening position seems to really help with the soundstage focus, although that seems to be a missing trait of the little Eagle, its a bit 'blurry' even with the Kolts and Eclipse speakers.
In this setup I have a massive soundstage and the size is almost that of the Magnepans that I had. Some thinking to do as its about as opposite of the OB plan as you can get.

I like the fact that I can get some realistic bass levels in room as its all done by the corner placement. The cabinets are sort of Aperiodic and at the loudest level I listen the cones, even though only 5" are barely moving.
Its nowhere near perfect, not really that 'hifi' but its a hell of a lot of fun!

Well I have a few corner speakers, I also used lowther ex4 in some large made for corner horns, and at present have some made for a corner, open baffles.
All give really very good results in my view.
Unfortunately I' ve not heard TP 1's ... Although I do keep thinking of making another pair of corner bass horns to match the beyma amt's.
My view, after a lot of experence with lowthers, is that the Hedgeman is about the ultimate for the high powered lowthers... But I don't think that's what you have in mind.

Thanks, for note I will be using my current Veravox drivers rather than the Lowthers.
Obviously the cabinet wont be at all similar, its more of the front horn type I am after some advice on, as well as a bit of advice about designing specifically for a corner placement.

I heard the TP1s many years ago and my impression was that they sounded very odd. Undamped and coloured to say the least (like every other Lowther I've heard). Still, some swear by them, I'd probably swear at them!

Unfortunately they are only as good as the cabinet... But with a good cabinet they can be quite something ..

The factory cabinets tend to be too light weight and the higher frequencies and back horns don't always go well together , but as you say nothing suits all...

What is the science of corner speakers? Don't speakers need to be away from corners to stop or reduce reflections? Saying that, some Tannoys were made as corner units so does the theory of 'away from the corners and back wall' (as well as not being ideal for most homes) have a tinge of doubt about it? - Just wondering.

The results will of course vary from one room to another, but you can design speakers that perform properly in corners. Properly damped sealed cabinets tend to work better than ported enclosures, but horns are the favourite as they tend to be less boomy anyway and can use corners to advantage, reinforcing the lower frequencies.

I would like to use the corner placement if possible to do more of the work in terms of bass re-enforcement.

Further playing around, sounds a bit better:

I am not planning on moving in the long term (no longer renting) so would like to build a system around the room. If I can get something set in the corners it will help with the visual size of the system, as I was planning to go down the OB route which will mean similar placement to the Maggies that I had, I.E right out into the room.

I'd imagine it sounds a bit better because the drivers are lower and more at ear level. Try and bring them down to ear level. :)

My Gran had that exact sofa suite. Thanks for reminding me, great.. I want one now, it's so funky!

They are just about at ear level where they are now :) They are also a little further out of the corners.

Haha well I bought it for my prevous house when I was renting, it had a very 60s theme so it fitted well, now in my first proper place, not so much.

Just ordered some foam bass traps to fill the corners with, should be interesting to see what improves :eyebrows:
