What did you canibalise for the motor?

I think that's a kosher Moth motor - or at least it's the same type - it may be from something else.

well I looked on ebay for replacement dyson (clone) motors they were about £16 plus postage, then see in argos they was doing one of there value range vacuum cleaners for £19.99 so plumped for that, which also gave me the mounting bracket and air filters and mains lead.
(plus that left me with a new tube nd head as a spare should the ones om my hoover ever need replacing) :)

Me first test clean

"Happy Harry and his two beat six - roaring twenties"
"Allegro. 1965. ALL793. M/M."
Was my parents but somehow I ended up it. Dont think its seen the light of day for 40 years is def in a bit of a "Two&Eight", so perfect for me test cleaning :-)

Ok so one clean with ipa nd distilled water and one clean with just distilled water and it looks pretty good. Is playable now too, its def been around the block and is worn, side A has a couple of bad scuffs so not risked playing it but side B plays V Good (If you like that sort of thing)

If you could do that Gary that would be fantastic - there are many members here who would be interested.

It always surprises me just how much is charged for an RCM, yet when amortised over a record collection, of say no less than 200 LPs, is well worth while. Nonetheless an RCM that could be built for a reasonable sum would be very interesting.

If the project is reasonably straightforward, we could well put it in The Knowledge (only with your permission of course!) :)

Yeh Guy/Barry I should be able to sort something out along those lines, there's really not a lot to it. Price wise it cost me about £65 (excluding nuts nd bolts glue etc nd some plumbing bits I already had) I'll make a start on it tomorrow

It would be great if you could post a parts list or some photos of your build as I would love to have a go at building my own DIY RCM but haven't really a clue as to where to find the right type of parts.

Not wanting to sound like an echo, we would all be forever in your debt if you could make a how to guide!

Thanks for that Gary, if you could post a few more pics of the underside of your completed RCM (especially of the wiring) I reckon I could build this myself and my wallet would be very happy:)

On your RCM I take it you move and then lower the vacuuming tube down onto the upper surface of the record, did you think of trying it the other way round like on the Monk machines?

Ok so here's the basic plans and some more pics, I've not had a chance to do a blow by blow assembly chart thingy yet may be able to next weekend, most of you should be able to do it with just the plans nd pics or at least start it.

I used a pre-cut mdf box of ebay for convenience, was easier than sourcing the wood nd cutting meself (esp as I have no transport at the mo)

any questions then please ask, I'll get back to you as soon as I can.

Can anyone confirm if the Greenweld motor is reversible?

EDIT: I think I've confirmed it is not being an AC motor .

It's not finished yet as I am having trouble trying to figure out a good way to attach the motor spindle to the platter, but the vacuum side works perfectly.

Any suggestions would be most gratefully received.

looking good Dave,
what platter are you going to use?
dont know if its hidden behind the platter motor in your other pic but, you need a hole out the back of the right chamber

The platter is from an old DD disco deck.... Think 1210 but cheaper.

I hadn't figured how hot a vacuum cleaner motor gets & had not thought about venting the exhaust air, but after a trial run I will be getting the jigsaw out again :)

The power of the suction from a 1600 watt hoover motor is definitely more than enough.

All I need now is to figure a way of attaching the platter to the motor spindle so it rotates evenly.
