back in the day SJS built some valve preamps, but that was now 15 years ago. Still building stuff for myself, mainly SE valve stuff and DHT amps.

musically its mainly skinny lads with guitars, but many of them appear to have turned into chubby middle aged blokes on reunion tours.

In my defense they were specials built at Kevin's insistence for guys who had the preamps. :lol:

I would like to build some phono stages, and have some ideas, but time and money etc need to be arranged, and then I would need to find some brave souls interested in them.

At the moment its for my own distraction, and a few old friends who are happy with development mules.

Thought I might as well try something nice and easy.

I thought I'd go with a 600R riaa bit. Will throw a transformer in between the input stage, ECC88 cascode, and the riaa bit and see how we go. Maybe not the cheapest option, but it is my choice of compromises.

Just going to make it as an mm stage. I'm happy using step ups into that.

Dave Slagles forums and Thomas Mayers site have been good sources of inspiration for lcr phono designs.
But they are generally not simple or inexpensive... but I guess u already know that:eek:

I am planning to start with a well excecuted two stage with passive composite riaa. My current amp has ec8010 and 5842 stages with diode and battery bias, plus plenty of ht chokes as is my favoured approach.

I should have just started with some C's and some R's, but thought I might as well add some L's in there as well.
It certainly isn't the cheapest way of building a phono stage.

I did order some Silk lcr modules, but was then told shipment will be in July, so I binned that and ordered the inductors from Sowter and will add the caps myself.

I must start a thread on it at some point.

I_should_coco has just done an lcr build on the wam using Slagle iron. May provide inspiration
