DIY Speaker Isoloation bases

Contemplating making some speaker isolation bases to support my Totem Forest speakers, an idea that has come to mind is to have 2 pieces of 6mm steel with an intermediate anti vibration support in the centre positioned at the 4 corners, a similar principle to the Townsend design. Does anybody have any decent ideas as to what to use for the centre supports, I know people have talked about using squash balls cut in half but was wondering if anyhting else would be suitable.

From what i can see the Townsend supports appear to be spring loaded, anyone have any idea if they are?

I could also make the steel thicker say 10mm if needed and coat it with neoprene or cork tiles should need be, dont know if the latter would add much.

Any help much appreciated and if anyone has done such a thing then it would be good to see what the finished article looks like and if it did anything to the sound

Hi Lee, I use a Townshend seismic sink under my techy. The corner supports X 4, are a combination of adjustable coil spring (for levelling purpose) encased in a rubber bellows with a small breath hole. personally, I don't think halved squash balls would be suitable but it is dependent on weight they will encounter? Prior to spring plus bellow method, Max Townshend used low inflation of two bike inner tubes but this did mean a constant check on pressures. Why not go to your friendly bike shop? :)
