Personally I am a Software Test Analyst and run my own business (which is me; professionally qualified as well...wooooo)

Wish I could make a living from my HiFi antics but its just not going to happen. While I'm modding, fixing, turning over hifi from home as a hobby I get exposure to lots of kit and I'm constantly tinkering. If I had proper overheads the finances just don't work........to that end, I'm in network security and design and have been for the last 10 years.

I did an apprenticeship in mechanical engineering lathes and milling machines etc got fed up with the crap money so I went to work for my dad building and maintaining kids play areas that was 25 years ago, still here looking after around 200 sites for various local authorities, Like to keep it a family affair so I currently employ both my sons full time out on site,my parents and daughters help out on a part time basis doing paper work which I hate, I work on site every day along with 5 other staff all over Sussex, the work is steady but certainly never going to earn my fortune working for local government. I do a lot of other general ground work including driveways and general digger type work for my sins, just waiting for the weather to sort it's self out, the forecast for this week looks crap again :steam:

Health and safety is getting more and more controlling so I have to do more and more paper work before I can even start some contracts, i think the world has gone nuts with some of the bulllshit you to compose now :mental:

it would not surprise me at all, we were talking about diggers earlier today and one of these H&S officers visited a site and wanted a statement for the safe use and disposal of a grease cartridge during and after the application of grease to the digger including what to do in the event of a bit of excess grease dropping on the ground and how much soil must be removed within the "Spill area" :rolleyes:

It's not the HSE Chris - it's the people who are employed by organisations to ensure the safety of people. They are not interested in stopping accidents, they are merely interested in preventing themselves (the ones who write the organisation's policies and procedures) and the organisation from being sued for negligence or corporate manslaughter.
The law is sound and founded on good sense and practice but as with so many things, it's the idiots who oversee the implementation who are to blame for the madness.

I love the fact that I participate... no scrub that...get such an incredible rush and enjoyment from what most would consider an 'extreme' sport, namely paramotoring.
Most people think 'you must be mad', but with the correct training it is the safest form of aviation according to the statistics.

I'm not sure that it's due to legislation, more worry about liability I expect.

Shame really, they are safe if used properly by people who have the technique (like me).

It's very much the same in American football. Lot's of concern about the permanent brain and body damage that professional players suffer and attempts to tweak the rules to make it safer. All quite sensible IMO, but largely driven by worries over legal liability.
