Has anybody got a spare motor for a Rega Planar 3. The deck is about 15 years old but this can be confirmed exactly if necessary.

No 'hum' or 'whine' under load please.

Thank you for your help.

A Rega motor rarely fails unless the bearings get clogged up (there was a problem but it's easily fixed if the bearings are cleaned and re-lubricated). The other issue is the 12? ohm resistor on the circuit board, which often went open circuit (with a fine crack around the body). Hopefully that's all it is...

Having said the above, Rega introduced the first of their motor update kits in 2000 or so and this used a totally different control board (identified with lots of little resistors on rather than two caps and a large red bodied one in the case of the Planar 3) and the motor now being able to be stuck in place instead of suspended. The slightly fast speed was cured and wow/flutter substantially improved. There may be one or two dealers about with stock of these and in fact Rega might be able to help point you in the right direction, since their current update involves a low voltage motor and power supply suitable for this..

Good luck :)
