Just got myself a copy of camels first album on cd remasterd, sounds very good, ive been looking for a vinyl copy, on first press, but the price wow its
in the £200 bracket, why so dear, this is the only downside to vinyl.

Paid £6 for a copy just a year or so ago in exceptional condition - sounding only a little better than my mid-80's copy, so I wouldn't think getting a decent vinyl copy would be so tricky.

The Camel Decca albums have been digitally mastered twice to my knowledge (the first one is a Deram release, isn't it?). The first time by the late Tony Hawkins at Decca, who told me he added a little lift at 40Hz to improve the sonics. I feel he was correct since this is what the vinyl medium would have sort-have done.

The second mastering was done (I think in the old Decca premises) by ex-Decca engineer Paschal Byrne (Audio Archiving Co.) and the discs I have of his sound as if he re-transferred the masters "flat" as they sound a bit leaner. I can guarantee that little would have needed to be done to the tapes, unless they were shedding or suffering the malaise of many masters of this period and what you hear on CD is what was really there in the master, for good or bad. Not sure I cared much for thisone though, as "Mirage" was where I came in to know this band, and bloody good it is too in any format :)

I like Rain Dances. Think my Mirage could be a first pressing.

My copy of the first LP is the black MCA pressing bought in the late 70's. The others that followed were bought pretty well as soon as they came out.

That black MCA with the coloured stripes sound good enough. I'm totally not a fan of this band & can just about listern to the furt LP..
