It's a phono preamp. Someone made it for me. The tape deck is an Akai GXC-325D.

Is that Jesus on the "wheels of steel" in the picture? I know God was supposed to be a DJ (according to UK dance act Faithless) but I didn't know his son had followed in his father's footsteps! ;)

(No offence intended to anyone of a religious persuasion, I hasten to add! I'm a regular church goer myself and like to think God has a sense of humour!)

I actually got that picture from Target (It's a store kinda like Wal-Mart. Not sure if they have them in the UK.)

Thanks. I like the sound. It's a lot warmer than my previous speaker/DAC mix, which was a little too analytical and sterile after a while.

That was my intent. Up until 4-5 years ago I listened to my music through my home theater, pretty much through my Sonos only. I had records but my turntable had died years before. Then one day I decided I wanted a dedicated stereo setup. My goals were to eventually be able to play virtually every home format (dead or alive) so I could one day start an album club & to not fall into the "gotta have the most expensive!!!" or the "GOTTA BE ANALOG! No, GOTTA BE DIGITAL!" trap. I think I did a pretty good job picking components that sound good for my budget.

The Technics is a beast! And pretty hard to find. I was lucky enough to get the El-4 with 5 blanks & the demonstration tape for $80. Had to unstick the solenoids to get the rewind to work (still can't get FF to work though) but it played beautifully and was in great cosmetic condition.

I have the same Sony Minidisc Deck - makes a very nice noise (£25 from a charity shop) & Diamond 9.1s (amongst loads of other stuff) :)

My gripe with the sony/Wega machines is the cassette label isnt in the centre of the door window, never looked right to me..

The Teac 'AL-700' was a nice one..
