Rega like you to keep the platter spinning during a session, they use a felt mat so the vinyl isn't marked when flipping. I don't like felt and I'm trying a cork mat, will the vinyl be scuff free? I have read many times that acrylic mats/platters need stopping to change the vinyl.

I've tried cork mats and have never experienced any record scuffing issues.

I use an SL1200 nowdays but have never got out of the habit of changing discs with the platter still spinning. I use a cork/rubber that mat gives no issues at all, certainly no damage to the records.

When your used to changing records while the platter is spinning it becomes dead easy operation regardless of what mat you use, however in the past felt mats have caused me to wreck a couple of styli tips where the static has been enough to lift the mat up for the platter spinning to allow the mat to travel under the needle.

Cork over felt so far then :)

 Know what you mean! Although I have never damaged a stylus. I guess my reflexes must have been quick enough.
