:steam: My neighbours cat has been using a particular area in my front garden as it's toilet for a long while now. I've tried the usual scented jell type sprinkle and even chilli powder which I just cant keep doing not to mention the cost - Anyone any ideas or know anything that actually works, I'm losing patience and dont fancy having to keep on scooping the stuf up throughout the spring and summer :steam: - Yours desperately !!!

Edit: Apologies for the misspelling of the word 'Its', as you can imagine the thread was written in haste and frustration !

One of these might help.
You get the satisfaction of shooting the little bugger with something that won't cause it any harm, and the cat might get the hint and remove your front garden from its territory :)

Yep! Maybe a tad extreme - I remember the story and that she got in a fair bit of bother over it, not to mention the wrath of th cat loving / pet loving public - Nah! I'd best keep it legal mi thinks :eyebrows:

Catch it drive 20 miles & put in someone else garden :) The simple things are always the best, cat lives happy ever after, no more pussy shite in the process..

If somebody did that to a cat of mine, I'd be at their door one night with a felling axe. Just for little chat.

Our next door neigbour has two cats. One is terrified of anyone but her "Mummy" yet used our back garden as her personal loo :( The other cat is friendly and comes to see us daily (keeping me sane in the process!), never using our garden for toilet needs.

We had to give our fig trees a short haircut last Autumn as they grow stupid amounts in the summer (not our choice of trees as they were here when we came to live in this house). The branches were cut to lengths of around two feet and placed around the beds in between the other plants there. Looks quite good and prevents little puss from digging holes. She now has the message and goes elsewhere..

I have two greyhounds which are trained from an early age to chase small furry things and a cat fits that description perfectly, so we are not troubled at all by cat shit in our garden :eyebrows:

It's a real hoot seeing a cat almost running in mid air like in the cartoons trying to get away smartish when the patio door opens

Touch wood they have all managed to scarper pronto but I wouldn't like to explain to the cat owner that the heap of empty fur in my garden is the cat they once loved :(

Mind you, these two buggers produce plenty of "organic matter" without any help at all from the local cats :mental:

I'd be a tad more proactive with the owner, and a baseball bat would probably be involved should the owner turn out to be an asshole. People who can't be responsible with their pets don't deserve them IMO :steam:

Why is it a problem? There are lots of other animals busily crapping on your land every day, birds, hedgehogs, squirrels etc. What's the particular problem with cats? They generally bury it so it will degrade into the soil. They are all welcome to a dump at my place!

A cat is not a pet it is a wild animal and unlike a dog the 'owner' is not responsible for what it gets up to. They don't like orange peel, try spreading some of that around in your beds.

Cats don't have owners, they have staff.

Sorry, I still don't understand. The soil in your garden is full of decaying matter-it's good for it. Providing the cat is not causing damage-digging up a lawn for example, I just cannot see what the problem is.
Our cat goes out every day and would be totally miserable if she was kept in.We have farmland at the rear so she probably doesn't bother much with gardens but assuming she did frequent them how should I be a 'responsible owner'?

I tend to agree with Jerry. Cat shit is good for soil.

As for that woman putting the cat in a bin. What a total tosser.

And raw onion and garlic, spread around the area, with plenty of pepper might do the trick to stop the cat.

I have used used Lion Poo, i got some whilst working at Longleat several years ago. A keeper gave me some after i told him about the cat problem i was having at the time.
To be honest i am sure it made it worse, Cats from all over came to check it out, and leave even more Ploopy Plops about the place.

Although it could be a conspiracy by zoo keepers and their little "joke!"

There were a few stories published in the forestry journals years ago about getting bits of big cat fur from from the tufts caught in wire netting around big cat enclosures in zoos. You were supposed to put it in a cloth bag and hang it off the fence posts of newly planted woods to scare the living shite out of your local deer population.

I was an airgun fetishist in my youth and had a small armoury of weapons. I'm afraid a few of God's creatures copped it in my back garden ...

Worry not, I have it on good authority that said pigeon recovered fully and later went on to win a prestigious dancing competition.

Anti-personnel mine. Full of ball bearings. And explosives.

Alex_UK
27-03-2013, 12:48
^^^ What Martin Said. It's official name is an M18 Claymore, Barry - a little bit tricky to get hold of, granted, and you'd have to be careful going out to put the bins out but... ;)

The Claymore explodes outwards in an arc on the horizontal as well as vertical plain, so I think it would be particularly affective against a Kitty. :D

Barry

Macca
27-03-2013, 13:02
Be careful though - a favourite tactic of the Viet Cong was to creep up on the enemy position and turn the claymores around. Later when they made a full assault the American troops would set off the claymores and blast themselves. Probably beyond the wit of a cat but a Jehovah's Witness might just figure it out...

How did the VC do that? Was there a sign saying "Claymore here" ??

Macca
27-03-2013, 13:06

SOP or standard operating procedure. The Americans would make camp the same way every time, the VC only had to learn this to exploit it.

edit -I should point out that you don't bury it, it won't work that way.

27-03-2013, 13:12

My brother had a problem with a cat peeing everywhere round his house years ago. He rented a cat trap from the local council, caught it, asked the neighbours if they owned it (they didn't), took it to the local vet and he gave it a sleepy-bo-bos shot (at council expense). All legal! :)
