Just got one, seems to sound quite nice, better than Leak Stereo 70, as Vinyl Grinder said.

But the 'Stereo 30 Plus' is the best version..

On that note i'm looking for a mint Leak "Varislope 2 Stereo" pre amp

Is this the selfsame Leak Stereo 30 that came out circa '65?

I remember having this, then the 30+ (hardly any difference) and the TRUVOX, which was the equal in price to the Leak. I recall these being the first (English) forays into solid-state. Also remember building 12 inch Heathkit speakers to accompany the Goldring Lenco G75, then 88, deck with the ubiquitous Shure M55/75 cartridges.

Probably sounded awful, but in '65? In London? It was the bees' knees.

I also bought the aforementioned Stereo 70, in 1970, to power my college's disco, but remember it couldn't cope with any speaker load under 6-8 ohms. In fact it wasn't that stable, period!

Seems to sound pretty good, germanium transistors, probably from about that time (1965).

Don't understand why people slate these as being bad sounding when they clearly sound good, you can pick one of these up for peanuts..A few upgrades to one would give a pretty nice sounding amp. That chrome plating around the edges of the facia is of high quality.
