BBC LS5/1AE design built by KEF

Does anyone have any info on these? Specifically wanting to know how efficient these are and the recommended power handling figures. Cheers :cool:

There's a reason for the two Celestion 'HF1300's :eyebrows:

The three-way 5/1A's were KEF built using KEF drivers I understand and are claimed to be the last of the "truly neutral" BBC monitors (the 5/8 and 5/9 have bass/lower mid lifts which may counteract the metre or more distance from the floor many of them seemed to be placed).

Too old for many to come up for sale now I think, but fondly remembered by those that knew them I remember.

EDIT - What the bloody 'eck was I talking about? The LS5/5's probably that replaced the above.

Seriously fellas, look at the BBC research papers, on the 5/5 especially, and read the comments on the 5/1's, which I think date from the early 60's...

Only asking because I might have a chance of a pair. Just found another thread with lots of helpful details about these speakers and I am a bit shocked to discover that the nominal impedance is 25ohms :stalks:

It would seem that the amps that drove these were a measly 35watts, I wonder if the Valhalla would struggle at 15watts a side?

There is generally a difference between what ss power you need and what valve power you need.

I'll leave that explanation to the experts. It is the bottom HF1300 effectively , but it is way more complicated than that.

Maybe it's just the pics but they don't look wide enough for a 15" unit.

Were those KEF tweeters?

if so I'd have thought they'd have been made under license from Celestion as they appear to be HF1300 units, mind you Coles and Fane also made rather similar looking tweeters.
