Ok, so I wanted to find out about direct drive turntables and got the chance to have an old Technics for free. It is now sitting in my front room waiting for a good clean and a new stylus/cartridge.

It has a p mount set up which rather limits what I can get for it. So far I have found some generic replacement styli on Ebay in England - http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&Item=260378274089&Category=48648&_trksid=p3907.m29&_trkparms=algo%3DLVI%26its%3DI%26otn%3D2, or some Audio Technica ones from America - http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/NEW-AUDIO-TECHNICA-P-MOUNT-T4P-TURNTABLE-CARTRIDGE_W0QQitemZ190283523847QQcmdZViewItemQQptZ LH_DefaultDomain_0?hash=item190283523847&_trksid=p3286.m63.l1177. I don't really want to spend a lot of money (in fact I didn't want to spend any at all, but what I wanted to do won't work). So, does anyone have any suggestions about a suitable new stylus/cartridge?
Is the audio technica likely to be the best?

Check out lpgear (http://www.lpgear.com/Merchant2/merchant.mvc?Screen=CTGY&Store_Code=LG&Category_Code=T4P)for a good selection of suitable cartridges.
Some of the Audio Technica cartridges come in a "Universal" form, they can be used as standard 1/2" mount or pulled apart and used as P mounts.
Hope this helps.
