Being relatively new in the market currently manufacturing storage cube in solid wood.
I am always looking out for new items to make, so i can the offer them to you.
Currently i am working on a 45s record storage case.
excuse the glue makes this is just a prototype.
made in solid oak, fully finger jointed, openable lid and cut down side so you can still flick through some of your collection. complete with leather handle and corner protectors. very retro looking.
WHAT DO YOU THINK? WOULD YOU BUY ONE?

To give you a idea on price they would be around the £100, please bear in mind all ironmongery will be quality also the box its self is built to last.
Would you still be interested?
I think £100 would be a little steep for the number of 45's it would hold Jamie, sounds like you might be pricing it to be decorative rather than functional. Perhaps building it from a cheaper material might be the way to go? Just my two-penneths worth ;)

I think a box made from slightly more slender timber stock would be fine for this use - it's not going to need to be nearly so sturdy to hold some singles. That might help keep the price under control a bit. I fully understand the cost of craftsmanship though.

Indeed Chris, I am not knocking Jamie's craftsmanship which looks to be excellent :)
Yup, Jamie - looks nice, but 100 notes is a bit toppy... I've got around 300 7" singles (mostly from the 70s and 80s), so how many of your boxes would I need, and at what cost? ;)

For any one after a TV/AV stand i will very soon be making these made to measure these are not going to be silly money like some on the market. but they are going to be quality with only glass, stainless steel and real wood used
solid wood uprights choose either pine, oak, walnut
8mm or 10mm safety glass
These unit are built modular so they can be added to at a later date just buy 4 legs and a extra shelf when needed.
all stainless steel fittings.
A 4 shelf unit 650mm wide 450mm deep 8mm safety glass in solid pine any height shelves to a maximum height of 1200mm included cable holes in shelfs £400. At £420 this is fully customised to your own requirements. sent to your door included in the price.

These singles case with the lid would be more of a one off item for your favourites rather than to take a collection.
I do a 7" open fronted cube for 45s storage this is the product for collections and to buy more as your collection grows.
Or maybe you would rather a cube with a lid and handle?????? for your entire collection??????

just read your answer properly and i think you are spot on it is more of a piece to have (decorative) as your say. rather than storing your hole collection.
Perhaps it would be better if I reserved judgement until I have seen the fully finished article then. I suspect it would make a very nice gift ;)

Sure, but at £100? Sorry, I can't see too many takers, simply because it would be a decorative, rather than a practical item. Most of us with large record collections like to keep them all neatly in the one place, not scattered around in little boxes ;)

So where do you source your oak from Jamie and do you know how it's dried?

With that sort of woodwork, I would suggest you think about making guitar amp cases. I might be interested in one myself.

I fully under stand your comment, as i understand i was not looking to sell these for your entire collection. it was more of a show piece but has a purpose if you wanted to store a few of your £200 singles.:)

These all have a modular design 2x 12" record cubes is the same height as 3x 7"/45s cubes, and 4x the CDs cubes.
These are all available in MDF, Natural Pine, Knotless Pine, Oak, Walnut. other woods available on request. Also bespoke cube made to your own sizes PM me for information.

The Grand Wazoo All my timber is sourced local to me. I try my upmost to work with air dried as it works so much better.
Are you just a timber geek:) or are you a woodworker?

I dabbled a bit in turning in the past though.

Fender used to use Pine to make their cabinets.
They still do on some of them http://www.fender.com/en-GB/series/artist-signature/ec-twinolux/
So who would be interested is a solid oak or solid walnut version of the 5E3?
