Hi Tom! Welcome to the forum, I'm glad you like it? Where in the Midlands are you? I grew up in t' country near Stourbridge. My folks are still out that way. I ended up down the South West though. City living :)

Good idea, I currently have a B&O CD5500 into a quad 33 into a quad 405. Speakers are DIY based on the Jordan JX92S full range driver (if anyone's heard of that from other DIY circles). Also have an Orelle CD-10T transport with one of those little DAC boards from China on the way.

The Quad 33 and 405 are pretty heavily modified, but I'm not too happy with the 33 since I reduced its gain. The CD5500 is unmodified other than changing it from broken to working. Don't have a TT at the moment, so will have to ask for recommendations elsewhere on the forum (I like equipment that's big, old and preferably broken).

As for music well, I'm prefering alternative, acoustic and a smattering of jazz over classical at the moment. CD currently in player is "Boxer" by "The National".

I am a newbie, joined today. I notice from your earlier posting that you were awaiting one of those DAC 'thingummies' from China - is it one of those listed on eBay? I ask because I also am in the market for a DAC and their price/spec ratio looked very interesting to me but I know ABSOLUTELY ZILCH when it comes to audio technology. You obviously know a lot more so I would be interested in your opinion.
Have you received it yet? - how does the build quality strike you? - do they use quality components? - and, more importantly, does it 'do what it says on the tin'?
I eBay messaged the seller of Item number: 150336862695 and got very nice, friendly, informatory and advisory replies from the designer, manufacturer guy called David Wei. If your purchase is from him, don't be afraid to contact him, he is very welcoming.
Good luck with the DAC - please keep me posted with your opinions of it.

Welcome to the forum - I've not been here long but i'd say you've come to the right place - plenty of expertise, but delivered with a politeness unheard of in other circles.

Anyhoo, the DAC - its the small one from ebay, there's a lengthy thread on it in the digital section of this forum worth a read. I received it recently, build quality i'd say was poor - it didn't work out of the box and I had to root out a bad connection to get it going. The sound is interesting - i'd say... detailed but very treble biased and fatiguing after a while in my system. I've got it on the bench to do some modifications as per various people's recommendations so we'll see what comes of that. Most people here seem to rate the Beresford DACs - could be a better bet for out of the box performance.

Thanks for that - DIY electronic repairs is definitely not my 'cuppa' so I have yet another reason to go 7520 - let's hope the lottery comes up trumps for a change tonight !
