I've been fettling the arm this morning as there were a couple of little jobs that needed doing. One was to rebuild the arm lift mech as it didn't work properly. The piston was sitting in the cylinder upside down so after fitting it the right way around it is now working well. I also gave the arm a very gentle clean and polish and it really looks spik & span now. I have noticed that the counterweight stub droops a little, is this normal? See in the pics below...

The arm came with a Sumiko headshell which is nice, but there is no finger lift. Does anyone have a spare they don't need please? Cheers

Dave it looks as though the rubber decoupling bush of the counterweight stub has perished with age. That is why the stub is drooping.

A similar thing happened with the decoupling on my 40 year old SME 3009. Replacement bushes are available and they are not difficult to replace. Suggest you contact Jelco to see if replacement bushes are available for your arm.

I find that my stub seems to droop more these days.........

Anyway, I have found that on quite a few arms the counterweight stub is flexibly mounted with a rubber bush and I've corrected sagging by rotating the bush through 180 degrees by undoing the slotted nut that keeps the bush under slight compression. This usually accessible from the back of the arm. You slacken off, pull the stub tube right off and twist the bush (it may slide off with the tube and have to be pushed out, so remember its position so you can rotate it), then just reassemble.

Thanks for that Geoff, I will have a go at it tomorrow ;)

Roksan sell a finger lift for £8.95, the cheapest I've found (I need 2 when I get roundtuit)
