Removing double sided tape from Akromat

The Akromat on my Techie has been removed a few times now and the double sided tape is tatty, so I wanted to replace it. I've tried isopropyl alcohol, which didn't work. I don't want to use anything too harsh in case it damages the Akromat.

Can anybody suggest the best way to get this stuff off? :scratch:

Markil has it correct - or a product call sticky stuff remover gel which I think uses a citrus based liquid to do the work - but it takes a while to do the job.

If you have access to laboratory chemicals you should try d-Limonene as it is very good at removing the goo left behind by labels and such like. I doubt it would ruin your mat but you'd have to have a little test to try it out just to make sure.

Tesco cheap spray furniture polish dissolves adhesives on every type of sticky label and tape, it may need a two or three applications, but will not damage plastic, rubber or enamelled surfaces.

Baby Wipes, they remove anything (I'm serious btw) :D

Tried them Dave. They didn't work on this stuff! Used them to clean up the WD40. :)

Currently listening to Double Fantasy on the Techie. Sounds very nice now with the Jelco arm and Yannis lead finally fitted. :eyebrows:

You could try AF Labelclene. Available from computer supplies specialists. I've used it to remove labels from album covers. Another established recommendation for removing labels and glue is lighter fluid.

If the WD40 didn't work I was going to try nail polish remover (acetone). I had it out to redo my toe nails. :eyebrows:

What is the Acromat made of? If made of a plastic (any plastic), I suspect acetone will be too strong a solvent and will damage the mat.

How come it was stuck down anyhow? Does it slip too much?

It comes with double-sided pads to couple it to the platter. Sounds better that way. :eyebrows:
