An article that addresses a common problem we all may have encountered with our hifi set up at some time, or still do! Read it in this months RFC news page which can be found Here (http://referencefidelitycomponents.co.uk/?p=1531&preview=true)

Good link Paul.

The Mark Levinson equipment I use has internal provision to lift the circuit earth from the chassis earth through the addition of a 10 Ohm resistor.

A pair of Quad 50E amplifiers that had been modified for professional use (connectors changed to XLR signal and IEC mains), used a pair of 'back to back' diodes to prevent earth-loop problems.

Cheers Barry.

That's interesting....don't know why more manufacturers don't fit earth lifts or diodes. I'm modding my current preamp and have some 10 Ohm resistors to hand, so will probably use one of those along with a bridge rectifier and a 100nF cap. No need for £100 plus 1:1 transformers!
