Hi guys

Both of my Ditton 22 tweeters are broken :steam: In both units the connector tabs are detached from the front wire coming from the voice coil. It was something that was already there previously but got worst with silly human intervention

If someone is aware of any of these (HD 1000) lying around please send me a PM, as I'd like to get them back to their feet.

Thanks

Are they the same as the 15XR tweeter? If so, I have two (one has a slight crease in it) spare..

Bought some 15XRs a few years ago and the guy may as well have posted them in bin liners. So they suffered cabinet damage. One tweeter I swapped out for this creased one to make a perfect pair that I sold.. They work fine and sound as good as the perfect pair I had.

Just about to post up that photo of the MS stands.

Looks like it! Can't be sure if it's either the 1000 or the 1300 on the 15XR's.

I'll try to confirm asap.
Cheers Nat

@Nat, can you confirm if it's either 4 or 8 ohm's?

I'll only need both diaphragms as my tweets are mechanically sound, only the connector tabs coming from the tweeter's cover broke.
If there's anyone more knowledgeable please feel free to enter!

edit: send me a pm when you have more info.

They are the same, they used em in the '15XR' the later Ditton'11', '22', '33', UL6' & 'UL8'

You have to swap the lot over no diaphram removal.

'HF1300' was the original '15' not the '15XR'

Already watching them Andre, thanks. The 1st one is too expensive though, a bit silly really.

Well, deal went rotten, tweeters weren't ready for travelling so still looking, maybe someone can help me soon?

Xapito

Yeah, as we agreed earlier this confirms it, but! When available, Nat was always the most polite guy.

Now, someone save these Ditton's from the effing wall corner! :)

Managed to get one, so still looking for the 2nd one, is there anyone with a spare one somewhere in the loft? :eyebrows:

Just make sure you replace like for like. I'm guessing the 22 used the same tweeter as the 33 which are 4 ohm HD1000. The 15XR used 8 ohm HD1000 and these will make a very bright & harsh sound in the 22.

There's a 4 ohm unit on ebay at the moment: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Celestion-HD1000-Tweeter-For-Ditton-15XR-11-22-33-DERBY-DE24-/151069409619?pt=UK_Sound_Vision_Speaker_Parts&hash=item232c704153

Hi Filipe,

Just wondering if you would think of selling your original, broken pair? I'm looking for a 4 ohm pair myself but I would be interested to see if I could repair them. Thanks, Gavin

Gavin, actually the 1st pair originally mentioned in the thread has been successfully repaired and it's working flawlessly @4.1ohm's.

Here's the deal:
I have 2 pairs of 22's and the 2nd pair was purchased also without tweeters. I like these speakers so much that I want to put them both back to their glory. I have 1 spare without the diaphragm, kinda like this, so ultimately I only need 1 good diaphragm :eyebrows::

No worries. I am just thinking of a backup plan for my 33s. I could only get a set of replacement 8 ohm diaphragms thinking they were the same as the 15XR ones.

It's great you got them repaired. Funny enough I managed to break one of my original 15XR ones yesterday. I noticed that one of the spade connectors had loosened in the faceplate and it was behind this that the tiny wire broke. I melted the connector out of the plastic & dremmeled from the front. Found the wire & managed to solder a new piece onto it :stalks: then remelted the connector back into the faceplate.

Now I'll a look out for some broken ones on ebay. I'll let you know if I come across a working 4 ohm one.

Gavin

Yeah, what happened to yours is what I guess happens in 99% of the all the broken ones  I wan't so handy and couldn't solder that hair like copper cable so off they went to the tech's table.

Ahh, hadn't realised that. Thought it was just me being ham fisted. I had assumed that where the wire jumps from the faceplate to the dome was the problem area. They look damn fragile.

This may be of interest to you http://artmincnc.blogspot.co.uk/2013/06/celestion-ditton-33-tweeter-repair.html

I have used this company in the past, their products are high quality  http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/2-piece-26-mm-silk-diaphragm-dome-Tweeters-voice-coil-100-new-/280905652548?pt=US_Speaker_Parts_Components&hash=item4167481944

They should do 4ohm ones too but you may need to ask.

That's me :lolsign:

I'll have to ask them about 4 ohm ones. I had bought 1" ones but I think the magnet plate could do with a tickle on the mill.

I've just emailed them so I'll let you know.

Aha ! I didn't notice the username :D

If they don't do 4ohm ones it shouldn't be too difficult to modify the xover for an 8ohm tweeter... I don't know about the 22's but the 33's use a 3rd order high pass filter so when changing the tweeter from 4ohm to 8ohm you need to half the original capacitors uf & double the original inductors mh.

4ohm: C1=8uf, C2=12uf, L1=0.14mh.

8ohm: C1=4uf, C2=6uf, L1=0.28mh.

Thanks James,

Those guys came back to me, but no 4 ohms available.

Your XO values make sense to me OK, but have a read over at this other thread. I've been doing some R&D. Effect-of-driver-resistance-on-crossovers (http://theartofsound.net/forum/showthread.php?26511-Effect-of-driver-resistance-on-crossovers&p=459298#post459298)

Could be of interest to you Filipe too.
