Hard letting go

We are likely to downsize later this year and I have been selling off a lot of my kit. I have a purpose built listening room here that I built myself and could quite happily go deaf in and nobody would know or care:lol:

I am quite happy to go down to a headphone based system (as was the case for many years when the children were small), but why is it so hard to let go?

I have had too much stuff for years, stuff that I have not used in decades, but when it comes to selling it there is that little (or very big:eek:) man on my shoulder saying, but what if this or what if that!!!

I feel at the moment that I only use my room because it is there and if it wasn't that I wouldn't miss it. I don't intend to have a room if we downsize as I feel I have been there, done that and it is time to move on. Trouble is that it sounds IMO fantastic. I'm tormented :mental:Sad B'stard.

It would be even stranger if you weren't attached to it. A proper setup is something we all love, that's why were here after all!

I have so much gear yet so little space.

I'm about to sell my much loved Tannoy Eatons. I have three pairs of Tannoys and something has to go, but I'm very torn over loosing these!

Yes, I too am in the process of having a clear out, and it is tough parting with some things. I am trying to downsize to a relatively few, but better, items ... also with an eye to ones which will hold their value or even increase in years to come. I see those as 'money in the bank' for an uncertain future.

Yes, it seems daft parting with Tannoys at the moment, with values having doubled in the last couple of years, but I'm so short of space.

Same seems to be happening with vinyl playing gear at the moment. Who'd have expected PL-12Ds to be fetching £100? And any old Shure or Goldring cartridge seems to go for over £40 now. Crazy!

I sold some vintage bits I had owned for about 20 years to fund an upgrade recently, a real wrench, but need must sometimes.

Are you re-amassing for your personal use or is it stock with a view to sell Dave?

I think it's a mindset but exacerbated by male geek notions of "but this is really rare/good/unusual design because of x, y and z"

I agree - rarely do I regret selling something (unless it was for stupidly cheap) because I know that it gives room for something new and different. Once the deed is done, I forget about it..

New-ness, renewal allows you to constantly revise your values etc rather than be bogged down with old unhelpful notions of yourself.

However I find it incredibly difficult to move stuff on due to unfinished ideas like I want to try it with an amp I don't yet own or there were some mods that might have made it better or just that it was rare.
