I'm really digging my electronic cig... now I can 'smoke' in my listening room (rather than in our rickety conservatory which has been the agreed smokers den since we moved in here).

Think I could probably say goodbye to the analogs now I've gone digital.

Btw I understand there might be health risks with these things too but I figure they can be no worse than my old roll ups. I've been at the tabs since I was 17 and the nicotine hook is pretty deep unfortunately.

Rich, have you tried / considered hypnotherapy to stop smoking?

Good luck Richard, I smoked my last ciggie at the beginning of January and I have been clean ever since. I thought it was going to be a real hard slog but I've been staggered by just how well I've coped. Never say never bud ;)

Yes I have... would you recommend it? The most successful attempt I had was using the Alan Carr (Not the camp comedian :eyebrows:) method. Sadly I live with another smoker who is entirely unreformed and this was my undoing. The thing is I'm not actually trying to give up... I'm just switching my brand to something which may be more social and perhaps healthier.

Hypnotherapy can be very successful for smoking cessation, however, you need to really want to give up and be committed to the process.

For some people, just one session can be all they need. However, what a lot of people forget is that there is often an emotional need behind smoking, so what can happen is that you give up and then other issues come to the surface that smoking was masking in some way. A short course of hypnotherapy can help clear up those issues and make the whole process much easier to deal with.

I'm just going to go and have a fag while I ponder all this!

'It's patriotic to smoke. People who give up smoking because their scared of cancer should be given a white feather for cowardice.'

I would give up the fags if only I could find another decent filthy habit to replace it :eyebrows:

I gave up because the habit was costing me a bloody fortune, in fact way more than I spend on music and hifi equipment. Best upgrade ever

I did the Stoptober thing last year and have been free of the evil weed since. Not easy to do but well worth it.

Don't bother. I've got all the other bad and filthy habits as well, but I still haven't given up smoking (just went about three weeks without a fag though, so I bought a pack to celebrate).

D'you think I'm that daft? I can't afford the disrepute at my age.

(by the way Frank, whereabouts in Cornwall are you. I'm down there regularly to see family)

I gave up years ago and will never regret it. There is a bloke I work with who uses one of the electronic cigs. He gets the stuff off the net and I read the ingredients which read ' danger poison' etc and ' harmful to aquatic life' And that sort of thing. I realise people are not fish, but there seems to be a lack of testing or control of this stuff and I cant help thinking that at some point it will be announced that they are more harmful than real cigarettes!

I've been stopped over three and a half years now.
Having a serious op helped (they get pretty pissed off when you try to light up in bed on the ward), followed by the months of being on serious painkillers and being generally out of it :)

I'm an addict to the foul things, although now I seldom get the urge to spark up.
When I do get the urge then I have to deny myself the "pleasure", as it'll be the first of many thousands more.

I regard myself as a smoker who chooses not to :eyebrows:

I have been smoke-free for three and a half years, following abdominal surgery and a life-threatening infection. It's (probably) the best move I've ever made in life.

If you put your mind to stopping smoking then anybody can give up. :)

I packed it in last year ... Smoked the 'e-lites' for about 3 weeks then realised I didn't really have any need for that either ...
Kept the elite cigarette in my pocket for about 2 months after as a security thing ... One day I lost it ... And that was that.

Gave up seven years ago after thirty two years . Best thing I ever did . If I could limit myself to one or two a day , when I really enjoyed a smoke , I'd still be smoking today . The nature of the addiction makes that impossible.I'll always be a smoker who chooses not to smoke .

I have family around Helston and The Lizard. May give you a PM next time I'm in the area. Could meet up for a chat?

Day 3 with the e-cigs. Enjoyed the pub last night. Asked the landlord if I could 'smoke' and he was OK with it....

Woke up today and coughed up a load of crap, maybe the chest clearing itself. Think I'll stick with the e cigs for a couple of weeks more then finally kick the nicotine habit.

BTW I also tried patches, gum, zyban and willpower over the years. The zyban did the job, I really didn't feel like smoking at all. I did however feel like chucking myself off the Tyne bridge. When I read up on them and discovered that suicidal feelings were a side effect I stopped taking them and went back to killing myself the slow way. Amazing dreams on them though, really epic Technicolor and exciting. Flying and leaping over buildings superman style. The mind is indeed a funny thing.
