I have one of these beauty's that sadly, when I was wizzing the volume control knob up and down to stop a small bit of noise suddenly stopped working, as in no output.

Firstly, any idea what happened, and second, anyone interested in buying it ?

Fwiw, there is a working one on e bay in the states with a buy it now price of $1200.00 !

How much do you want for it ? A couple of pics wouldn't go amiss ;)

Best case scenario, a fuse has blown.

I'd pray for a fuse blown to start with, as these are deliberately fragile and nearly 40 years may have weakened them. Those old huge amps weren't empty large cases, so you may need to do some hunting around inside (mains disconnected/ubplugged of course) to find them as there may be several...

I'm willing to swop you it for a box of Jaffa Cakes. McVities; the real deal. Non of yer Asda lookalikes. Still ages to go on the sell by date. I'll throw-in one of me Battenburghs. Can't say fairer than that, Squire.

I know, mate. But logic just flies out the window when you really want something.

If his were a race, I'd say that Stan B is at least a length in front!

As I mentioned on another thread, if you have a recorder of some kind try making a recording to see if its totally dead or just the output section.

Both channels going at the same time screams power supply to me. Do the fluoroscan meters still go up & down with the input signal ?

No, we have illumination, and it shows the input, but no sound, not removed the lid to search fusing yet.

A veritable knob-twiddler's delight!

Looks to be getting power so one might therefore assume the fault is in the output stage. Have you checked internal fuses yet?

No not yet, incidentally Alan "fluff" Freeman was a friend of mines best man at his wedding.

IME [with an SA-608 & SA-7800] the speaker protection circuits on these are rubbish, on both of my examples the outputs had gone short circuit but the [original!] fuses were intact outputting 4vdc with the fluoroscan meters go haywire.

Blown output fuses would be consistent with no meter activity... I have attached an image showing the fuses.

Alan Freeman was a friend of yours! WoW! I'm impressed! I thought he was great, and it was really nice to hear him return to radio after for being away for some time.

I'll swap it for my future DAC too... (might look like a kit off ebay in a fancy case, not decided yet).
