Is there a way to 'unanimate' animated avatars? The animation adds nothing except distraction.

Yes, when you are on the page just hit the escape (Esc) button.

Animation stops...:eyebrows:

Wonder why that is... Is it a Mac/PC thing? I'm using a laptop with Windows 7 Professional.

I'm using a laptop with Windows 7 Professional.

Me too Marco, could be a browser specific thing, I'm using Chrome ;)

I'm using Firefox on Vista. So must be a browser thing?

May be another button on IE or chrome...?

There is no easy option in Chrome - basically, if you don't like animated gifs, use another browser that allows "esc" to stop them. (Marco - I suspect AOL doesn't have the feature, either.)

Marco

Exactly, Alex - it doesn't! Therefore, so far, the only one this works for is Dave... So much for the tip, daftee! :D

the Escape thing did not work for me but I have found a good solution.

It is Adblock. That is a Chrome extension. I am running Google Chrome on Windows 7 64 bit professional. No doubt available for firefox and IE as well. The great thing is that it works whenever the same 'advertisement' appears. You simply right click the image and then click the default "Block It". The only potential downside is that it take away the whole picture, and does not merely stop the animation.

Works on Firefox, but it's not my default browser....

There is a Chrome extension that enables ESC key to stop animations.

Hitting the Esc works for me!!!

But my issue with avatars is different.

When a member has an avatar of a beautiful woman, how do I get that woman to my home without her clothing??!! :eyebrows:

Esc works on IE10 and, I'm fairly sure, earlier versions of IE.

As animated avatars are so popular....

Yeh great, thank you Chrome sorted too. I can now read long posts without irritating flashing baubles.

Or, alternatively, you could just click off the thread...

Joking asside, this forum is hardly over-run with animated avatars (are there even two?); extremely lengthy sinatures, now that is a different matter...there seem to be pages of those...

It's not this site, did bang the esc as soon as the rolly eyes appeared though,
:) .
Some sites are over run with animations, mainly football ones. with sigs.and avatars animated, flags waving, cartoons flashing across each post, spiders weaving around really do not see the point.
