These are sat in the loft doing nothing and so have decided it's probably time to move them as they would probably make a decent pair of cheap speakers for someone.

Bolivar were a short lived brand from the late 70's from an offshoot of JBL/Harmon. The Model 125's are 2 way, vinyl wrapped (not veneered) and are in pretty good nick for 40yr old speakers. The 8" bass\mid drivers have been refoamed by me and the flimsy spring terminals changed for modern binding posts that take bannana plugs. The crossovers have not been uprated but for someone who can solder this should be an easy job as just 2 caps. Please note that these are 4ohm and were running quite happily off a T-amp when I used them.

Anyway only looking for £20 which is less than the cost of the re-foam kit and binding posts. NOW FREE OF CHARGE! Collection only.

These would suit Mr 'Money4Nothing', I'd think, but he can't do collecting. Shame.

Indeed they would Chris. Perhaps a friendly member who does a bit of travelling in their line of work could pick 'em up and drop them off in Essex when they are down that way...

FFS Somebody buy these - they're one of the funkiest and actually decent speakers you could buy back then. With the tweeter backed off a tad (I think both models had adjusters), these things were superbly involving and should come into their own with modern sources and amps.

Loved 'em to bits. I don't think any buyer would be disappointed :)

I believe they produced three models all using the same size chipboard cabinet

Model 125 - 2 way 8" Bass\mid
Model 18 - 3 way 8" Bass
Model 64 - 3 way 10" Bass

There is no adjuster for the tweeter on this pair but there may have been on the 18 & 64's :)

What about the settee?

synsei

What about the curtains Steven, they match the settee? :D

Mr Kipling

True Dave. But speakers, settee AND curtains for £20? I think that's asking a bit too much.

Only joking Rich. Pity Nodieskys couldn't be helped when he genuinely wants a pair.

I wonder what the shipping costs would be to Ontario?

Mr Kipling

I imagine it would be a number of times more than the £20 Rich is asking. Last year I was thinking of buying a POD record clamp from someone in Canda but when postage and Paypal costs were added, it wasn't really worth it.

The airfreight costs won't be cheap, so could you make this man happy in Canada by sending them by surface mail?

Get a grip fellas

The Bolivars were HUGE fun and surprisingly smooth for the kind of funk-box they were, BUT they're not worthy of spending hundreds on shipping and restoration. You'd be better off looking out (in the UK anyway) for some Mission 720's or 730's, which will also need refoaming of the drivers (and possibly restoration of the mid driver surrounds as well). The boxes were over stuffed to the gunwhales on these first generation Missions and we found that taking half the stuffing out let the sound breathe a bit more without adding to colouration. Celestion Ditton 44's would probably be a better bet as well, together with AR2ax and 3a, both these latter being better but needing restoration now.

I haven't even started on the UK bextrene cone bigger-box models such as KEF Cadenza's, Concerto's and Ref 104ab's, which were better and some of these are still affordable I think :) JBL had a very mixed bag of speakers back then, but some were superb and built on the basic quality of the cheaper Bolivars I remember. The infamous DM2a's wouldn't be as "funky" in the Bolivar way, but were far better for acoustic music obviously :)

You dont have to send the boxes. Just the speakers and send ny email the measure of the box and I am gonna build here exactly. The other way I have to get back to Cuba and buy back my old ones that I had to sell and bring it back to Canada. Is just thw sound man. It is so clear and powerfull for so small speakers. Find out how much cost you send to me with out the box won't be that much and we will talk about the price. Trust me. Will be okay for us

Nodieskys, PM Mothman (Richard). I don't think Mothman has been online for a while so a PM would be best, that way Richard will get your message as soon as he logs back in :)

Here's a radical suggestion:

While you are waiting for Rich to reply, you might like to take part in one of the discussions in this 'discussion forum'.
It might seem strange, I know, but that's we're here for. The sales and wants section is actually intended to be a privilege for the use of contributing members and is not just here for anyone who joins just because they see an ad for something they want when they're Googling.

Now Free to any AOS member with +100 posts

Still have these and so if a regular AOS member can make use of them they are welcome to them. Just to re-fresh they are 2 way 4ohm speakers from the late 70's and the drivers have been refoamed by me. The cabinets are in good cosmetic condition but no doubt the speakers could be improved with with some work to the crossovers & cabinets (re-cap, bracing ect). They have been lanquishing in my loft for the last couple of years but I will pull them out and test them if there is any serious interest.

Collection only from Newbury, Berkshire, will not post to Canada, Cuba or anywhere in between .

If a mod can put the word Free in the thread title that would be great.
