I must admit i associated the Proton with 'stack them high sell them cheap' discount electrical store fare,
but once i zoomed in on that D1200 power amp and Googled for pics, i was like :wowzer:..:wowzer:,
those heat sinks, them banks of tranny's, those coke can size caps :eek:, please tell me more?, how did you arrived at the brand?,
in that i mean have you tried over priced audiophile kit and preferred Proton?.

It was more a coincidence. ;-)
I guess it was back in '90/'91 when I bought them. A guy I knew worked at a HiFi store and recommended them. They had a pretty good review in some hifi magazines. And I always wanted a preamp/amp combo. So I "switched" from my Pioneer A656 amp to Proton.

Yes, very well build and lots oft power and headroom. Besides that I really like the front panel with the meters. So paired with the preamp it's a perfect match. At least for me.

Like I said in my intro it needed some restoration. Potentiometers were cleaned, cold joints were re-soldered, loudspeaker relays were repaired....but after more than 20years it's something one can expect. ;-)
