Does anyone remember these from the 1970's??

A Dinky JU87 Stuka, which was one of my favourite toys when I was about 7. It has a releasable bomb in which you can put a paper cap - it's spring loaded and explodes on impact - awesome stuff!! As you might expect from Dinky it is superbly built and really heavy - Made in England. Quality. You just cannot get anything like this nowadays.

Yes, it cost me over 30 quid on ebay (the boxed ones go for over 100 now) but it's in excellent condition and was worth it for me to relive my youth and to see how excited my 7 year old boy was - priceless. Now we'll see who gets to play with it more :D

Anyone else got any toy memories? :eyebrows:

Me too. Had many a battle with my chieftain tank, the half a matchstick firing one. Tank from a different era and scale, but as a kid the fun i had with these and the Airfix soldiers....

I remember a group of kids huddled in the playground watching a much envied schoolmate opening a box with an F-4 Phantom in it. He ripped it out & started 'flying' it round just as I pushed through the crowd to get a look. It went right into my forehead.... and I mean properly into it!

I didn't have that one, Julian, but I did and still do have a Dinky Spitfire with the motorised propeller (I doubt that I could find the tiny battery for it now, though).

I had a Dinky Stuka when I was a lad but for me the Spitfire and Hurricane were King, therefore the poor old Stuka got a bit of a caning I'm afraid. Last seen diving into the drink (the fish pond), I think Ginger bagged him in the Hurri... :lol:

I'm going to keep an eye out for a Hurricane and Spitfire that doesn't break the bank! Of course there's also the BF109 and Zero ... :eyebrows:

I've got a loft full of vintage toys I re-bought (hundreds of boxed diecast cars mainly) and stuff I never had as a kid but wanted (boxed etch-a-sketch, anyone?) You don't want to know how much I've spent on the modern equivalent of Action Man - all for my son, of course... ahem! :o

Yup, had one of those too with the slider on top which deployed the undercarriage. Superbly made toys all. If only I had appreciated them more instead of fighting to gain air superiority of the skies above Gardenland... :D

My most cherished toy was bought by my father on the day he arrived home with his shiny, new, Daytona Yellow Ford Capri 2000GT mk1. Eschewing some of Fords crasser options like a black vinyl roof and matt black rear light panel, the only items on the car that hinted at its potential were the black engine grill and its attendant spotlights and the Roadstar wheels. I loved that car. The Corgi Capri Dad bought me was almost a perfect match, except mine was a 3000GT with a black bonnet. I would rib him mercilessly about it :lol: I still have that car and it takes pride of place in the display cabinet ;)

The shame of it all is that, as sure as night follows day, in every little boy's life air rifles always follow scale models.
When the two clash in the inevitable orgy of sharp shooting madness, the air rifle wins and the resale value of scale models clicks up one more notch!

I have a few Dinky toys from the Gerry Anderson UFO :eyebrows: i also have the Star Trek USS Enterprise You loads the orange plastic discs in the top & fires em out the front :D

Wow, I remember the Enterprise André, good call. I didn't have one but my best mate did. He was always complaining it wasn't the right colour :lol:

I had a UFO Interceptor with the missile up front which could be fired with a trigger on the side. I also had Destiny Angel's jet from Captain Scarlet plus several of the road vehicles, oh and a Shado armoured personnel carrier from UFO which was very cool... :cool:

Does anyone still have their model train set? Probably all a bit passé nowadays, but I recently saw a programme on BBC4 on railway modelling.

Was reminded of the old names such as Bassett-Lowke (who started it all in the UK, by importing models from Nurenberg, Germany) with Trix, Frank Hornby with Hornby Dublo and Triang Rovex. Happy days. :)

Railways is one of my secret hobbies ;) i have about 25 'OO' guage trains but i left them at my parents when i left home :(

However they wer'nt toy trains they were serious brass locos, i had a few 'O' guage trains aswell. This is the kinda stuuf precision & detail to the real thing..

The flight deck fell off of my Eagle but that was quite a common fault with them. :)

I have built a mezzanine floor in my man cave ready for a train set. Have been collecting oo gauge stuff for years in the hope I would one day have somewhere to put it.

Well, I grew up in North Kent and owned a BSA Airsporter, which was a powerful son of a gun, however I would have been mighty impressed if I'd been able cop you from that distance Alex :lol:

I had three airguns - a .22 BSA Super Meteor with zoom telescopic sight, some German .177 rifle that I can't remember the name of, and this Daisy side-lever pistol, which was great fun ... Happy days!

A good friend of mine had that DV preamp, the matching monoblock power amps (very rare) and the arm. Talk about lust, that was when I promised myself that one day I would have the arm. Well, a 507 is close enough.

Not sure how mnay of you will recall the old SPI and Avalon Hill wargames from the 1970's, possibly some of the North American members will remember them. I was collecting these from about the age of ten. This is just a fraction of my collection:

Like most toys they are only really valuable if still in the shrink wrap, although the 'Kursk' game is pretty rare, regardless of condition and fetches about USD 200. Some of these games are so big you need a full size snooker table to lay out the board and will take you about a year to play to conclusion (playing 8 hours a day)! They are quite heavily researched and are very useful tools for the student of military history, giving a far clearer picture than any textbook can manage.
