Dubbed the Father of Progressive Pop/Rock, Ayers' work was brought to the public's attention through his collaboration with Robert Wyatt and Soft Machine.

Very sad indeed. I met Kevin at the Barbican Syd Barrett tribute a few years ago; he was a fantastic character, incensed at the time because Roger Waters had the nerve to turn up 'when he'd kicked Syd out of the band' and worse, that Roger had played one of his own songs (Flickering Flame), not a Barrett number! He will definitely be missed. One of English pop's great eccentrics.
