I'm only having a bit of fun Gary ...

I for one would actually quite like to hear a Brio.

Next step of course is to try a hybrid like mine!!

Today, I sold a Brio-R to a customer who had one for a few weeks then sold it to fund something 'better'. Seems like the 'better' wasn't..;)

As the OP, can I be a pain and ask not to get in to discussion of how good/bad the Brio is?
Its a sales thread guys. cheers.

Brio-R is scary good, I'm only selling it to fund a move to valves. :)

Just fancied a change.
I couldn't afford to improve on the Brio if I stuck to Solid State amps.

hey Gazjam

have you used the phoneStage on this much?

DSJR

I have

Oh, by the way, a pal who'd sold his Brio R on here very recently due to the acquisition of some active speakers has regreted his sale and bought another Brio R new for another setup he's planning. It's not an extremely popular little amp for nothing and I'd be totally daft for even beginning to think i had summat to do with its popularity - the great review last Summer in HFW saw to that.....

There is only one thing worse than being talked about and that is not being talked about!

I have and although I am sorting my new Brio away until I can set up a second system, I did test it by comparing the phono stage to my top of the range Graham Slee which I use with my headphone system. It was not a detailed appraisal but there really was very little in it at all, the Brio phono stage is THAT good. It's a wonderful amp, I have no doubt of that. Next task is to find some nice speakers for it :)

Cheers

Phil

wow, against the £££££ slee that's a great comparison,, role on pay day!!! 2.5weeks and counting!

I have the MM Camb Audio Azur 550, which I will probably flog, only had 40 hours use...decent stage too for the money.

There isn't a Richer Sounds near to me, but these little Cambridge amps must be a good thing for cash-strapped audio/music people. I believe Beobloke (Adam) likes them but can't remember which model he really went to town on and gave a good review to not long ago..

G'wan g'wan g'wan.. :)
pass the word around, this one comes with the mains cable too.

If I wasn't going valves (a taste/preference change not sound quality...) this amp would be staying.

Bearing in mind that "someone" thinks that Brio R's have only sold in tiny quantities and only amongst the forum-faithful (actually they've sold in hundreds in the UK and thousands worldwide I understand), now the Scottish contingent have sold them on, there won't be many more for sale

Tried another amp (thanks to Scott Nangle), but it just didn't work with my speakers.
Shame..great mid and top, but the Bass just didn't work.

Have this now, absolutely wonderful.
http://forum.audiogon.com/cgi-bin/frr.pl?ramps&1220733371&&&/Image-Audio-65i-Tube-amp-

astonishing, never heard my RS3's grip like this.

its a completely different "type" of sound from the Brio-R, valve vs SS.
If I didn't have to sell the Brio to fund the new amp I would have kept it and been happy.
Just made the mistake of hearing a good quality valve amp...doh!

Bel Canto's apparently either sound wonderful, or not very good, depending on the speakers used. NOT for Harbeth SHL5's I recall ;)

In the UK, Richer Sounds alone sells Cambridge (I think the above is a joke so forgive me for being more dense than usual :)) and I have no idea who sells HK these days - some of their older product (integrated amps) was really good, if not hairshirt enough for the real enthusiasts..

We've already discussed in another thread the genuine Brio R alternatives, and there aren't many around these days and truly better alternatives cost a lot more, so I'm happy to continue to recommend it, whatever a certain jealous individual suggests on his blog.

Yup, had a Cambridge 640a amp before I plumped for the Brio.

It's a great amp, very good mids, deep tight bass.
Plays a tune very well.

Had the 640 CD player too (mk1 and 2) and they were great, a lot of fun especially the mk2.

Cambridge Audio do great kit and should be applauded imo for bringing great quality kit to the budget sector.
The latest version of the amp is here, looks good.

The Cambridge I had was good, but the Brio was noticeably better.

I have the Brio-R... for the money (I paid £375) I don't think there is an amp to match it (I say at that price, I know there are better amps)
