Cash Convertors/Generators

Popped in looking for a cheap 2 ch amp the other day, and was gobsmacked to see them selling a Rotel RA04 amp, not mint for £250, which was the brand new price when the amp came out!!
Now why is it they only gave me £100 for a mint £650 Denon amp, boxed manual etc, and yet they then totally disregard their own purchasing rules, and obviously paid way over the odds for the Rotel?

Naturally I called them a bunch of twats and pointed out the way too high price on it, and was pleased they then reduced it by £70, which still left it too highly priced IMO!

And another thing, have you seen those all plastic lamps with the shade that clips onto the base in Ikea, the ones that are about £3.99?
Explain how the aforementioned cash shop can sell one for £4.99' a quid more than you can buy a new one for?
Furthermore who the f*ck buys in a lamp like that anyway???????

LOL I love the way Cash Converters sell an amazing amount of electric guitars from failed rock gods that are mostly of highly cheap Chinese manufacture with badly made and distorted necks. Rosewood fingerboard...? What the hell is that...??

Cash convertors/generators do have the occasional gem. I managed to pick up a copy of Marantz CD67SE for £30 each, and a Nad 3020a amp for £30. I even saw a 1210 going for £90 cos they couldnt get the tonearm fixed (yep its an easy fix for us) but I didnt want to spend £90 on another 1210, i have 2 in the garage for spares. But I must admit the prices are extremely inflated and my general advice is never ever sell anything there and dont expect to get your money back if you buy anything and its faulty.

Some of them can be good for secondhand CD's, when I was travelling around I bought a copy of Oleta Adams Circle of One for 0.80p and Led Zeppelin Mothership for £1.10.

I got hold of a Pioneer DV868AVi for playing SACDs (which it does amazingly well) for £40 from Cash Generators I think. Included all paperwork and the remote.

You'd be surprised at what you can find there, Al. I once saw an Italian (can't think of their name now. It was the one with EL34s) valve amp in the Newcastle one for £750. It was later reduced to £700 and was there for weeks. If I'd the money I would have bought it. Then again I've seen a load of 1210s at £500 each and Archos stuff more than the original price.

I bought my Quad FM3 from one using their mail order service. It's in very good nick and after a service to some tired old supply caps (quite usual) it works just fine and utterly reliably. I need a knob for the muting adjustor on the back though and Quad and Dada don't have any spare ones.......

I bought my 1210 rom there & a decent pair of Gales floorstanders and also a Pioneer amp...these days it's mostly crap. they seel TV's for a price you could buy new. Their guitars are mostly toys and if they ever get a decent guitar in they price it way over the top. I still pop in now and again but they never have anything of interest these days.

Another thing I did notice is the vast majority of regular clientel are Junkies trying to sell to get their hit or folk needing money just for a pack of smoke.

Also locally there alway seems to be a staffie tied outside..

Well i bought a mint pair of Audiomaster 'LS3/5a' speekas from em complete with original chrome tubular stands all for £20 :eyebrows:

It all depends on how knowledgeable the staff at a particular shop are. Until a year or so ago, one of my local Cash Converters was clearly staffed by people who knew Technics, Sony, Bose and not much else. Hence why I was able to acquire such obscure, unheard of items like "Cyrus", "TDL" and "Pro-Ject" for very little outlay!

Sadly, they've clearly recruited someone a bit more savvy now as anything remotely interesting in there now commands a higher (but actually, still fair) price.
