Gosh, that turntable looks familiar to me!
It's identical to the unit that was in a Van der Molen thing that my sisters and I had when we were kids. I think it may have been made by BSR or someone similar and bolted into all manner of other peoples product lines.
Funnily enough, there's a bit about Van der Molen in your old Boot Sale Hi-Fi thread (http://theartofsound.net/forum/showthread.php?t=7171&page=2)

this from my (sort of) local flea market in arnold nottingham, one of many steals over the past few years....paradgim 10'' powered sub..tenner, jbl control 1 speakers 15quid as new, nad 4020a tuner for a fiver plus many more

the wife groans everytime and now the daughter has vacated the box room it looks like many more to come!!!

I need to find another use for my Yamaha 396 now as I think the Arcam will be staying but I do like the Yammie too (despite what a bargain basement model it is!). I've got some big ol' goodmans under the stairs which may warrant an outing soon so the Yammie can stretch its legs with them.

Sorry; I was wrong. The brown item is an earpiece as Simon indicates. It's the earpiece that has the small number of holes and not a mouthpiece.

Looks like something suitable for use in schools, particularly with the detailed instructions.

Bang on. I used to work in Brixton/Camberwell at the 'Electronic Maintenance Section' of the Inner London Education Authority (ILEA) in the early to late 80's and these TruSounds Record players amongst many others were found in Schools and Colleges and F.E places all over London and probably all over the country. FWIW That Cartridge looks like a Goldring G800 with the 'DJ' stylus fitted.

Other makes were Coomber, Goodsell, Clarke and Smith, Tandberg and few others that'll come to me later no doubt, there were 1000's of Goldring Lenco GL75's out there too and Leak 'Sandwich' speakers. No really.

Coomber generally made Cassette machine come PA units..

Yep you're right, they did. I remember working on some that had a large 10" ELAC driver in them mounted on a side panel made of hardboard with holes in or summat.

Did you repair/use the Coomber stuff too Mr Bird?

One owner from new with the original stands as well , The old gent said they cost him £200 in 1970 something  he could not remember the exact year , He was downsizing his home and seemed quite upset that they were going , He said he had enjoyed listening to records for countless hours with these speakers , bit of a trip down memory lane for him :)

Great haul Al
I was ahead of photo 3, already thinking 'nice meters' :mental:

Have you got an 8 track player? I used to fix them when I was a nipper, well ....young anyway.
The biggest problem was slippage with a well used player. Because of the graphite used to keep the continuous loop of tape moving the capstan would eventually become embedded with a layer of graphite.
The only way I found to cure it was remove the capstan/flywheel, heat the capstan to red heat then quench in cold water. No more slippage ;)

For me its an important part of my musical adventure , Also a good walk made even better if the weather is kind , I have met some nice people selling off Hi Fi equipment and had some interesting conversations

What can you buy these days for £15 ? 2 packets of fags or 60 LP's , I'm glad I no longer smoke ( 28 years now ) and have no problem investing a few ££ in " My " audio enjoyment

Nice wooden side cheeks :eyebrows:

It dates from 1975 - 1977

From the Vintage Knob

The TA-3650 was just below the TA-4650 V-FET bestseller and is NOT equipped with V-FETs. The structure is all-DC differential amplifier.
Two phono inputs, two tape loops, presence and loudness switches, two turnover frequencies for each bass/treble controls, low & high filters, separable pre/main sections and a multi-voltage selector for the non-US and non-JP versions. Bar the damping factor, the 3650 specifications are quite similar to those of the 1971 TA-1130...

The 3650's 2x 55W are enough to shake da foundations whether you stroll along Peter, Paul and Mary or reach for heaven and hell with Carl maria von Weber's Freischütz.

It weighs 25lbs  I know I had to carry it to the car  £10

It powers up and you hear the relay click after a few seconds so should work OK

I wonder if the Sony 3650 will sound any good these days with a more modern source? :) The 5650 is the one, but surviving ones will definitely need checking here and there if a major and expensive blow-up (including speakers) is to be avoided. A mates pride and joy TA-5650 ended up on the skip a very few years ago after taking out his beloved twenty year old Harbeth HL5's before I could claim it - only a couple of diodes too going dry-joint I believe but these old-age faults are known and catalogued.

The PL12D sold in the tens of thousands in the UK alone and should be easy to fix up nice. It always sounded nice with an Ortofon FF15E so the VMS3 should be a good match. The main bearing always had some drag on it and may have been greased from new rather than oiled. A strip-down will show I'm sure. Pioneer used to supply a little phial of oil IIRC for doing the motor and top of the bearing and the motor will need stripping and re-lubing top and bottom by now if a seize-up is to be avoided ;)

I am on the committee of a boat Club ( Treasurer )

Recently decided to spend £3K of the clubs money on having the hoist shot blasted and a full 3 coat 2 pack epoxy re paint

So have too help strip the hoist Saturday and Sunday

Today this turned up

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v240/bigboobs/IMG_2542-1.jpg (http://smg.photobucket.com/user/bigboobs/media/IMG_2542-1.jpg.html)

along with all the site hording that we had to erect

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v240/bigboobs/IMG_2547-1.jpg (http://smg.photobucket.com/user/bigboobs/media/IMG_2547-1.jpg.html)

The hoist and frame can cope with boats up too 15 tons

Picked up an amazing haul of records at my local boot fair this morning. Ranged from mono, through early stereo and up to late digital recordings. Quite a few rartities too.

Finding all four of Barbirolli's Brahms symphonies was very welcome even though they are duplicates. :)

Hah, some people have all the luck. I went to the huge Denham boot sale, west of London on Saturday and found absolutely nothing of interest after trolling about in the heat. That's unusual for me, I often find a bit of audio gear or some sounds.

Hi,

I know there crafty. Fair i know most of them from when my dad was in the trade and used to deal a lot with them...still not the point for genuine music lovers i dont think its fair somehow..as i collect but also love to look but lately the joy in doing that has long since gone in days where everyone had a bit of what there were looking for now you would be lucky to pick up anything record wise...its the same everywhere i go down in Bournemouth don't half get on my nerves..

Went to two boot sales today - my first in ages - and the pickings were good, namely a pair of Goodmans Achromat Sigmas for £35, an Optonica RP7100 turntable for £8 and a old Garrard 78 deck in a Plus-a-gram cabinet for £1!

Also some eighties-tastic vinyl, some of which I'm too ashamed to admit to...

Will try and post some piccies tomorrow.

Very pleased to note that France laid on a goodly number of brocante markets and other celebrations in honour of my birthday today. Most of the boxes I went through had mostly Julio Eglasias (or however you spell it!) in them, but I did haul a couple of gems, this lot set me back the princely sum of 5 euros.
