View Full Version : The MCRU Music Server
On the cover of this months Hi-Fi Choice magazine and awarded 5 stars, Jason Kennedy when reviewing the server says...
The MCRU music server proves that computer audio is a force to be reckoned with at the very highest level....
http://i622.photobucket.com/albums/tt309/themainsman/Music%20Server/SERVERLOGO_zps116a6981.jpg
The server is configured to individual specifications, as standard it is fitted with asynchronous usb to use with an external dac
or s-pdif with internal DAC fitted. The server has been extensively tweaked to give the best sound quality possible.
It also functions extremely well as an AV hub playing blu ray discs and will handle 4k with a suitable display connected and a blu ray drive fitted.
We have the server currently working in our dem room with the new Longdog Audio DAC playing DSD and we will be exhibiting at the
Sound + Vision Show, Bristol where the designer of the server Mr Jamieson will be on hand to answer questions and demo the server .
The server has jriver media centre and windows 8 pre-installed so will play back DSD files when connected to a suitable DAC.
Available now on the MCRU website (http://www.mains-cables-r-us.co.uk/canor-equipment/520-the-mcru-music-server.html)in silver or black, fully customizable and starting at £1550.00

Happy to help if there's any sensible queries about the Server.
thanks.
Gaz.
I'm really not baiting here, but this thing is very expensive. Why so please?
thats...a bit unfair boss.
It sounds extremely good.

Nice one Gaz, look forward to hearing it sometime.
I don't think £1500 is excessive for what it does. You would have to pay that sort of money for a decent CD player and a similar amount for a good turntable, arm and cartridge.
Think I would prefer the option of a BNC S/PDIF output to an external DAC.

The server can replace a blu ray player, it can store all your movies on a seperate NAS drive and read them from there, it can store 1000's of FLAC's, it allows you to listen to spotify or last f.m or 1000's of internet radio stations, it is a pc so you can read your e-mails etc, some other manufacturers charge double for less functionality so "expensive" is not really the correct word as taken in context for what the server provides it is exceptionally good value for money and Jason Kennedy more or less said that in his review.
Nick dropped his new DAC off recently so I am currently listening to DSD material (who else offers that currently from a music server, no one I know of) so DSD capable can be added to the server's capabilities and we never even told Jason Kennedy that, he reviewed it based purely on 24/96 and red book cd in the form of flacs and still said it was "a sonic stunner"
Thanks

Sitting in your listening chair with a remote (ipad, android phone, keyboard with mouse built in,tablet pc etc) you would not have to get up to change the cd, you can read your e-mails, listen to spotify, browse artist information while track is playing, even download some music at the same time, and to my ears a properly configured server will blow most cd players out of the water anyway.
The only thing it does not do is make a cup of tea so you would have to get out of your chair for that! :)

Will bring it to owston in May chief, perhaps you can share a car with Gaz?

I would still like to see the option to use a separate outboard DAC connected by a 75 Ohm S/PDIF interface.

Coming to Owston this Year.
No probs car sharing.

That is easy Barry, all servers configured to customers own requirements.
thanks Barry.
The Server has Spdif output to a dac as standard.
BNC 75 Ohm digital output..hmnn, could be done as a custom config if need be.
Might be worth looking into to this as a possibility for making a regular option?
Maybe those with BNC dacs would make good use of it, particularly playing DSD files.
Thanks for bringing that one up, time to get the thinking cap on. :)

Getting up to turn the record over is a key element of my exercise regime.
Must admit, I see a turntable in my future, inconvenience or not :)

Poster for Bristol Show (well..it IS a Trade thread)

Thread:
The server is configured to individual specifications, as standard it is fitted with asynchronous usb to use with an external dac or s-pdif with internal DAC fitted. The server has been extensively tweaked to give the best sound quality possible.
Web:
the server can be configured to your own requirements, as standard it is fitted with an internal dac and digital out (RCA) using s-pdif to connect straight to your amplifier, if you already have an external DAC then choose the swap internal DAC for USB option and the server will be delivered with asyncrous usb output to connect to your DAC.
I find these descriptions rather confusing and note the option for USB output puts at least £250 on the price. I'm sure you don't mean to imply the server only works with DACs that function in asynchronous USB mode, but your thread comment reads that way. You could also imply that using any USB DAC with the sever is going to add £250-£350 to the basic cost for no obvious reason when people might expect to use simply use a standard USB port.
The idea of using “an internal DAC ...using s-pdif to connect straight to your amplifier” puzzles me. A DAC is basically digital in and analogue out, so if I can connect the server directly to my amplifier then I'd expect to be using standard analogue phono connections. Is the internal DAC really a DAC , or is it some kind of digital-to-digital converter, or part of a soundcard that provides a superior alternative to using any on-board S/PDIF on the motherboard?
Some clarification might be useful for potential customers.
PS There's a small typo on your website. - asyncrous
Thanks for the feedback Chris,
Agree some of the wording is in parts a wee bit unclear, we'll take your comments and revisit the wording of the website moving forward.
The internal Dac is part of the Server - think of it like the same as a cd player with digitial out.
The Server has analogue outs to go straight to your amp and digital SPdif output to connect up to a Dac.
We dont discuss specific descriptions of internals or "parts lists" Chris, sorry.
We wil however need to have a word with the Spell Checker! :)
Cheers!
We dont discuss specific descriptions of internals or "parts lists" Chris, sorry.
Things get tricky when people inevitably ask about parts, but I quite understand why you'd want to keep a lid on it. It is after all a commercial venture. It must be difficult to guard against some bugger taking one apart and spraying photos all over the net.
Thanks Chris for understanding.

Well I'm going to give one a listen...
If it works or me it will mean I can take quite a few boxes out of my rack!
Always a bonus, especially if it sounds good :)
Both Gaz and David have been very helpful in specifying the thing so far too ... Cheers chaps!

Interesting and no fan, passive cooling so silent.
For me I would want something like this but no blu ray functionality and with esata connectivity as well as USB3, spdif out and windows 7 (no 8 in this house). Native DSD I assume is an interesting addition.
There is another UK company building something similar but if I recall right with nowhere near the functionality at the MCRU price. Theirs is a passive cooled design too, identical case to the MCRU one - though it might be slightly less tall. Can't recall the name of the company though.

Yes that's it :)
That's a nice case, there's a version of that with no drive slot I've planned for the next version of my own music source.
Though Streamcom do a half width one ( same as yours Tim?) that might fit in better looks wise with my Rega kit.
Thats the chappie. :)
Didn't know Paul did an internal supply, any info Tim?
I am toying with building my own music server but I am having terrible trouble trying to find an Mini-ITX mobo which has coaxial digital output, optical is no use to me, any suggestions? I would prefer a used board as it will help to keep costs down.
You should look for a Jetway board Dave, I think they used to have them - take a look here maybe;

Now that would be me giving away all my secrets too - I have a few things up my sleeve as well :eyebrows:
was just wondering if Paul had any info on his supply, as it sounds interesting.
assumed it was out there in public t'interweb. :)
Any use Dave?

It would be perfect Gary but it is way too expensive. I've spent a fortune this month and the credit card just won't take anymore...
I'm not looking for a powerhouse which is why I am willing to consider an early, used mobo, but locating one with coaxial digital out is proving difficult.

Marco.
I'm good cheers matey, Connie is a beautiful little nut bag :)
Don't really have the time for HiFi these days... My main reason for the mcru server is to get rid of boxes of I'm honest.
Otherwise, my cash is currently going on late 70's to early 90's compact 35mm film cameras and expanding my vinyl collection (Connie has gotten over her desire to jab at the tt :)) ... So yeah, I guess that's why you haven't seen me, I've not had anything to say really :)
You good?
Do you stream from a NAS Tim or work from an external drive?
I used to stream from a NAS Gary, now I have an internal 2.5" mechanical drive. I found eSATA preferable to USB 2.0 on a server operating sound output via USB, I have not tried USB 3.0.
I am toying with building my own music server but I am having terrible trouble trying to find an Mini-ITX mobo which has coaxial digital output, optical is no use to me, any suggestions? I would prefer a used board as it will help to keep costs down.
Not much choice for a Mini-ITX mobo with coaxial digital output, and they are not going to have the kind of line transformer you'd find on a decent soundcard.
Were you thinking fanless ATOM m/board, or are you willing to use other configurations?
This m/board, combined with any of the new Intel Celeron/Pentium G CPUs, might suit:
http://uk.gigabyte.com/products/product-page.aspx?pid=3963&dl=#ov
Circa £60 new for the m/board, add a CPU from £30.

I'm sure Gary will be along to answer that, but to give a non-biased opinion based on having tried what you have and having a server which is likely to be very similar to Gary's, the answer is yes. You have to consider the fact it costs more, but sonically a well made server is superior to a SBT.

Just wondering why a coax output would be important. I use a V-link II I got off another member here and its now an essential part of my kit. Feed it with bog standard USB from my laptop and j-river set to output 24/96. Into my rega DAC it sound wonderful.

If you get a chance to pick up a Vlink192 Rich I'd snap it up.
Got one from one of the members on here.
Had a vlink2 replaced with its big Brother..very substantial improvement.
Proper galvanic isolation, better USB chip all that good stuff.

I wonder if using a Vlink and taking the SPDIF output away from the internals of the computer would be better than using Motherboard SPDIF?
Agree with Rich here, I found its better to isolate the music feed as much as possible from the insides of the Pc.

Agreed, but that's Dave choice, and he's skint atm. Interesting as it sounds like a direct USB connection to your Rega DAC is inferior to SPDIF in via the Vlink, or is it that you just want the higher res?

I've just seen the revised page on the MRCU site and it's now crystal clear.

Its none too shabby Gary, after 2 years of tinkering I finally have a Windows server I am happy with. The next voyage will be a Linux player when I can find the time - I'm on cover art and liner notes for my library at the moment :D

Its a bit of both I'd say. At this point I find it difficult to describe as the rega USB input is nice but the v-link and spdif just seems to take everything a bit further. I personally find the spdif input on the rega to be a bit livelier sounding than the USB which may not be to everyone's taste, I don't really know whether its the jitter reduction of the v-link or the difference between the inputs or the benefits of running j-river in 24/96 which I'm hearing but its definitely there and I like it. I was a bit skeptical about USB/spdif converters and I'd only say to try one before you dismiss them. I'd also say the same for mains cables for which I've recently found myself reconsidering my previous stance too. Anyway that's for another thread.
Gaz, the 192 version is on the list along with a few items:lol: these will have to wait though as like Dave I'm a bit brassic lint myself having much needed home improvements and holidays to pay for
Forgive me but I have trouble getting my head around all the twists and turns of outputting HD audio. It took me a long time to get my current PC to output anything above 24/48. Why it is imperative, to me anyway, that I stay with coaxial digital output is that after much advice and help from various members it quickly became apparent that coaxial was the only way I was going to achieve full HD audio on my PC without having to pay out for extra equipment, and it works very well indeed so I am keen to stay with it. Also, I was informed that optical will not output higher than 24/96.
Now, I may have got all in a muddle with some of the above but the upshot is that I want a Mini-ITX mobo with coaxial digital rather than optical if I am to build a silent music server. It will be a Win7 machine after my various disastrous forays into Linuxland. I don't know what I am doing with Linux therefore it is best left alone. Win8 is a no goer too. I have had a play with it now and it is horrible to use. There are workarounds for those who are used to and like Win7 so they can feel at home but what is the point, I have a legitimate MS Win7 install disk which has the real deal on it in both flavours (32 & 64) ;)
All things considered, what I need is a small and quiet windows PC that can output digital audio files at up to 24/192 through coaxial digital out into the BM. It would also be nice if I could watch the odd movie on it and stuff from BBC iPlayer. I have a 250gb 2.5" Sata HD I can utilize to save a few pennies. If all this can be shoehorned into a case more or less the same width as a Bushmaster I would be over the moon :)

Dave, most mobos will have an SPDIF output even if it isn't actually being used. The specs for the board should tell you if it has an spdif output. All you need to do is organise a cable and plug and a coax socket for the case.

I don't mind it actually, it is going to take me sometime to complete, as I check each scan and then touch up any dodgy ones in Photoshop, but I only intend doing it once so it has to be right first time.
I find it rather therapeutic as I have music spinning at the same time and it keeps me out of trouble

Of the new boards I have researched so far I haven't found one to date for under £100 with an spdif header Bernie. I find digital audio quite confusing and stressful. Ordinarily I would buy one of Garry's excellent machines and be done with it, but being a commercial product it has value beyond the sum of its parts therefore to keep costs to a minimum I must build one myself if I want to own a a machine with similar capabilities. In the end it all comes down to what one can afford :eyebrows:

Match to an Intel i3-3220T, 4Gb RAM, SSD, a fanless streacom case and pico PSU you should have a silent PC that won't get too hot.
The setup and the time taken to find the most suitable products in the MCRU system will be much harder to recreate, and where the real added value is.

Is that true? A lot of m/boards use realtek high definition audio chips (e.g ALC 889 or ALC892) that claim support for up to 24/192 over toslink. And your Bushmaster accepts 24/192 over toslink, which is a function of its receiver chip. But you will need a good quailty toslink interconnect to support this. e.g:
http://www.beresford.me/PP/TOSLINK_CABLE_XQ_2D_1_meter.html
If there's any doubt I'm sure Stan would be happy to confirm this. So you may be restricting your search unnecessarily.
The chip set may support the higher rate but does the Toslink Rx/Tx module? This will be the limiting factor, the likes of the Toshiba TOTX177A / TORX177 only support a 15Mhz symbol rate AFAIK meaning 24bit 96Khz is as high as you can go. Then there's the cable limit, most are only good for 6Mhz, the one on Stan's site is rated for 10Mhz...

My experience, limited as it is, is that esata seems to give a better sound with no playback issues stuttering etc. I would certainly want some on any unit I get.

That would maybe make sense actually Neil, suppose with USB there has to be a conversion process from SATA to USB.
As little conversion or processing tasks in the chain could be the way to go.

Haven't seen the review for the server yet . I'll try to get a copy of HiFiChoice today.
Nice looking product, David & Gaz. I know you don't want to discuss specifics, but could you at least reveal the internal DAC topology? E.g. Wolfson, Sabre etc?
If one were to be specified as S/PDIF only, would you delete the internal DAC? What about maximum output bitrate? As you know, 24/192 is pushing it a bit for optical, this is where co-ax would be better?
Looks like a very nice piece of kit! Wouldn't mind one of those in the living room. (However, a PC will never ever take place in my music room! ;))
Out of curiosity, what do you mean when stating that the USB output is asyncronous? That is not really up to the output IMO, that capability is built into the recieveing end?
Regards /Mike

I don’t think Dave or Gaz will say anything more about the parts used, and I’m not sure it helps their cause to speculate. Unfortunately having started this thread, that’s exactly what we will do.
Yup, its a public forum so gotta be able to ask questions.
could tell you, but I'd have to kill you. :)
There's some stuff in there we spent a lot of time trying out and getting right which we feel makes the Server sound the way it does.
We'd prefer not to go into specific details Guys, if that's ok.

If one were to be specified as S/PDIF only, would you delete the internal DAC? What about maximum output bitrate? As you know, 24/192 is pushing it a bit for optical, this is where co-ax would be better?
Hi Martin.
You mean if you wanted to output SPDIF to a Dac?
Servers fitted with coaxial SPDIF output, which outputs up to 24/192.
Tested with Jriver, Foobar, XXXhighend, all work at best audio quality modes.
No problems with playback via Asio, Wisapi, Wisapi Event Style etc
I found Jriver Wisapi Event Style sounds the best.
Philistine!
The server is silent, looks good and would improve your sex life. :)
Good spot about the wording of the USB output, spot on.
Oops.
Cheers will sort it.

Doesn't having a pico (or other SMPS) in your pc spoil the sound; aren't you better off getting an ultra linear one for the job?

The Server was reviewed in Hifi Choice with our standard PSU as it was felt this would be the model most people for go for.
No point getting the better sounding one reviewed as that might create a false impression.
Have our linear supply available as an upgrade which steps it up a gear again.

Mike , if you never want a PC in your living room you better not listen to this mate . I've heard it and yes it is that good. I'd be more than happy just to have it in the house . In any room :)
Ahh, dont get me wrong, i'm sure it sounds delightful! Thats not the issue...
I have already got the best fileplayer around! ;) For me, that is, and thus; i dont need a PC..
Of course, this is all in my highly personal opinion and your mileage may vary on a grand scale!
But i do not, repeat NOT, question the device's sound quality!

This is a snippet for you............
The MCRU music server proves that computer audio is a force to be reckoned with at the very highest level
Sound quality that few cd players can dream about. A degree of refinement that only the best record players can deliver
It'll be set up at the Bristol Show but apart from that, anyone going come up and say Hi.
Just purchased the rights to show the hi-fi choice review so will post it tomorrow

Could someone explain the differences between no usb, usb and the async option? Surely the motherboard has USb onboard and is therefore capable of async operation when connected to any suitable dac? It's not at all clear if you mean the async usb option has a async compatible usb dac fitted internally as the optional part.
It's a cracking looking piece of kit. I look forward to hearing it next weekend.
Who's that speccy Bloke in the review then? :)
Its a wee bit unclear Simon, lemme clear it up.
Onboard "normal" usb as standard, which (of course) can work with an Async Dac which come with the computer - standard USB sockets.
Theres an upgraded USB option though, which is the best sounding option setup option I tried. Async gets mentioned like its exclusive to this upgrade, which of course its not.
Confusing!
Theres a 24/192 SPDIF coax out on the Server too, should anyone wish to bypass the internal Dac.
Its just an issue of wording Simon, ta for bringing it up.
Your right its a wee bit confusing, we'll take a look at it mate and it will be clearer.
Maybe see you at Bristol next Weekend?

Why Windows and JRiver guys? Would it not have made more sense to provide it with an XBMC based Linux client who's name escapes me at the mo? Out of memory error
p.s. It would also reduce the cost of the server significantly ;)
Hell no Son.... ;)
From the website...
"Important note, if you think computer audio is complicated it need not be.
The MCRU server is simple to install and easy to use."
And your talking Linux...lol
Way different market Chris. :)
plus (IMO) Jriver is the best sounding computer audio software there is, even better when its fettled.
that's why I used it for the server and I tried a fair few of them in testing.
Fair do's Gary, just wondered ;)
Hi Gary,
Nice looking machine.
That looks like a SOtM PCi USB card fitted in the HiFi Choice review sample. Is that std fit or an optional extra?
Do you reckon it's worth the extra cash over and above the std onboard USB?

The Standard build comes with analogue outs to your amp, and is fitted with a Spdif coax out capable of 24/192 to your Dac.
If someone wants to use their own dac, you can use the inbuilt spdif output or standard USB sockets.
You can specify the upgraded USB output in a Server build but this is an optional extra.
If someone wants the upgraded USB and has no use for the analogue outs they can save a bit of money on the upgrade by letting us know, and I won't fit the facility for analogue outs.
If your using USB I'd absolutely say the upgrade is worth it.
The improvement between a standard USB socket and the upgraded one (even in to a good asynchronous Dac) is very noticeable.
A big part of my thinking when I've been testing different configs for the server, was how the things that ACTUALLY AFFECT SOUND QUALITY can be isolated from any potential mush being generated inside the server case.
Isolating the USB from the rest of the system made a noticable improvement.
It's the way to get best possible sound quality from the box if your using a USB Dac.
That answer yours too Ali?
You can use standard USB to connect to any Dac with USB input, but it won't be as good as the upgraded USB option.
Thanks Martin :)

sitting in your listening chair with a remote (ipad, android phone, keyboard with mouse built in,tablet pc etc) you would not have to get up to change the cd, you can read your e-mails, listen to spotify, browse artist information while track is playing, even download some music at the same time, and to my ears a properly configured server will blow most cd players out of the water anyway.
The only thing it does not do is make a cup of tea so you would have to get out of your chair for that! :)

http://i622.photobucket.com/albums/tt309/themainsman/Music%20Server/2-box-server2_zps4dec3bbd.jpg
The server looks and reads very well, good luck with it.
I have went down the server route with a Sqeezebox, dac and a laptop, found it ok but noisy, now use a liv zen and im happy with it as it does all i need, ie rips my cd collection onto its 2TB green WD hard drive and does so in flac, easy painless and serves the music to my system without any glitches and runs cool and very silent. Sounds bloody good to running through USB to my YBA dac which runs hi rez through all connections inc USB ( latest version only does this) Im happy it looks good, works well and i have an i pad using ipeng as a remote and to read through my album art and lists.
Being new to this genre and without puter skills and knowledge i find it easy enough to get to grips with it and get a very good sound through my system.
Thing that gets me now days is the constant stream of "YOU NEED A GOOD POWER SUPPLY" OMG! :steam:
Sorry but at £1500 and it needs a good power supply im thinking ive been short changed, why cant manufacturers give us this built in. I have never heard of any review that states your wadia or ARC etc needs a dedicated power supply (ok these are expensive in the extreme)
Sorry for the rant but im sick of the well now, you've spent all your money and are happy "YOU NOW NEED THIS TO MAKE IT SOUND RIGHT" Jeez that annoys the hell out of me.
I'll get my coat as im sure im gonna get belted from all sides on this one.
Good luck with the product though it looks good.
Ron
Hi Ron, quality rant! :)
thanks for the good vibes too.
Your setup sounds cool, if it does what you need then your sorted.
Know what your saying about power supplys etc and there is a lot of that going on - just check Ebay for all the aftermarket SB and Beresford mods at silly money.
Nearly went down that road myself, getting my Beresford Dac modded by a guy for £££ until I realised I could do better myself just with the knowledge on the forum here.
Look at outfits like Naim or Cyrus with the PSU upgrades..what!?
I'd like to think our Server is different from that.
You dont NEED the extra power supply to make it sound right, the Server got its 5 star Review with the stock PSU.
The better quality Nick Gorham designed one is just there an option if you want the sound to be even better.

not getting at you but i am really sick to death with this it really is the latest foo for all to drown in, if i had an upgraded power supply for everything on my rack i would need another room just for those alone.
Next will be the PSU needs a PSU! how much swill do we need to swallow?
I for one like older hi end gear when its right its bloody brilliant, never has the need for seperate power supplies been needed or asked for, these units had it right from the start. Too much stuff now gets churned out ( im not pointing at your unit or any specific product) these days with crap components, they do seem to get away with it and if i had the knowledge and the wherewithall i would slate all and sundry who feed this garbage to supposed audiophiles. Make a product that works and does what its supposed to do and get on with enjoying it without some git saying...pist, that PSU inside that unit is crap! you need this....... good grief!
I understand what you are saying about yours being designed and it sounds good as is but at £1500 is bloody should!
But as i stated earlier now someone is saying over my shoulder you really should get a PSU for that mate. makes me mad it really does. IMHO a unit that is over £1000 should never need a PSU to make it sound better. but then what would i know.

Most gear responds to a better power supply. After all the output of your amps is just the power supply modulated by the signal.

Spot on, Ali. That is *exactly* the situation, especially the last bit!
The problem, Ron, is that everything is built to a price, and whilst £1500 might superficially seem like a lot of dosh, the reality is that in order to make such a product commercially viable (i.e. profitable for everyone involved in the supply chain), a large chunk of that sum goes on things (advertising, marketing, dealer margins, etc), which have nothing whatsoever to do with component choice.
Therefore, you cannot look solely at the retail price of equipment and think that every penny of that is being spent on performance (the quality of internal components), because unfortunately it isn't. This is just the norm when buying a commercially produced product.
I'm certain that the quality of the components used in this music server will be excellent, as I respect the ability and integrity of the people behind it, but the reality is that they are still governed by their available budget, and so the stock PSU will only be as good as it possibly can be within that budget.
That is why high-quality add-on (linear) PSUs, born from a much bigger design budget, and usually featuring very large transformers, bigger than what could've been housed inside the original case, can offer significant sonic improvements.
Hopefully, this has given you a more understandable perspective on things! :)
Marco.
I didn't personally machine the case Neal, had to buy it in... :)
just meant that case was by far the nicest one to base the Server on, and I looked at a fair few.

Hi Brian,
Sorry, but what you wrote above is too important to leave deleted. You obviously felt strongly enough to post it in the first place, so it deserves to stay up!
Furthermore, it once again shows just how much of a control freak Dicky Dunce is - and also how much of a bloody hypocrite he is, too!!
He's got the cheek to chunter on about exposing the truth about the industry - aye only when it suits his agenda and if what's being written doesn't expose the failings of him or his joke amplifier bodging company.
Therefore, whenever anyone writes something on his pissy little blog he'd rather was hidden, he deletes it!! So people deserve to know *exactly* what's going on, which is that he'll only put up with you if you toe the line and suck his d*ck... If not, he'll boot you and/or your posts....
If anyone else has had their perfectly legitimate posts on HFS unceremoniously deleted by Dunn, or a banning for no legitimate reason (other than his twisted interpretation of 'ad hominem'), let's hear about it!
Marco.

can I respectfully ask that this thread doesn't get bogged down in all this stuff between you and Richard please?
No offence mate.
There was a misunderstanding over on Richard Dunn's forum about how my Server David at MCRU is selling for me came about.
I joined Richards Forum just to clear up the misunderstanding.
I spoke with Richard and its been sorted to my satisfaction mate, and I have no beef with anyone over there.

Agree Gary , life's too short innit ;)
Ali , a shoot out between these 2 servers would be most interesting indeed . I'm sure they both have their merits.
Marco,
can I respectfully ask that this thread doesn't get bogged down in all this stuff between you and Richard please?
No offence mate.
There was a misunderstanding over on Richard Dunn's forum about how my Server David at MCRU is selling for me came about.
I joined Richards Forum just to clear up the misunderstanding.
I spoke with Richard and its been sorted to my satisfaction mate, and I have no beef with anyone over there.
Lets keep it light, eh?
Brian deleted his post as he wrote it in anger over what he seen as unfair treatment of him and myself.
He was surprised something he deleted was put back on, He considers it NOT way too important enough to repost and would prefer if it was taken back off.
This stuff doesn't help...you know?
Thanks man.
Gaz.
Hi Gary,
The sheer hypocrisy of his behaviour was just impossible to ignore, and so to borrow one of Dunce's quaint little phrases: 'a light will be shone' on such hypocrisy, whenever I see it, so that folk know the stunts he pulls to control his members, which otherwise go unseen... He's got a cheek criticising others for behaving like that when he does the very same thing himself!
Btw, you're doing very well not rising to his abrasive nature, although just watch it doesn't turn into toadying ;) Anyway, you can rest assured that Dunce's glaring hypocrisy won't be brought up again on this thread, so let's leave it at that. No need to respond any further on the matter :)
Marco.
Thanks Marco, appreciate that.
Would you mind taking Brian's deleted post back off mate as he asked though?
thanks.
Whats toadying lol?

Hi Gary,
Sorry, I can't do that, as then my post, immediately after it, wouldn't make sense. I've spoken with Brian about this and he's happy to leave things as they are, so let's do that, dude. Cheers!
Marco.
P.S Toadying is another word for sycophancy: something that Quinny and Jam-rag boy have perfected to a fine art on Dunce's virtual pissoir he calls a forum.
Oh, and before you ask, here is a 'Pissoir':

...where the entire contents of HFS belong, and at Dunce's age, he's probably more than verbally incontinent!! :D
Marco.
Nae worries Marco, if Brian's happy were all sorted.
Toadying?
Thought it was a bit like Cottaging, summit else I had to look up
Just joined there to fix a misunderstanding about something, all sorted now.

No problem. You've done what you had to do and exhuasted its usefulness, so time to move on. I fully understand :)
Btw, best of luck with your music server. We'll certainly help you make it as much of a success as we can!
Marco.
. . . a bit like Cottaging
. . . what's that then
Go to one of Dicky Dunce's 'bake-offs' and you'll find out!!

I knew you couldn't resist looking it up.
Come on we've all done it :-)
I used to squeeze my wife's tea bags to get the last drips out but now she prefers redbush.
Gary, I love the look of your server and I bet it's a cracker. Very best of luck.

Hey..thanks for that Ashmore, appreciated. :)
Redbush is ok, I prefer the teabags with the string that hangs on the outside...

That's cos yer a posh Lanarkshire boy
Aye, he's movin' tae Bothwell... ;)
Marco.
If I haven't said it before Gaz, congrats on your review and I wish you every success with this venture. If you can continue to be as open and friendly with your customers as you've been in our exchanges then you'll do well.
This may be where that chap on the other forum doesn't get it, now I really don't want to turn this thread into a discussion about him but am I the only chap here who feels a bit patronised by someone accusing us of having been shilled for our gear choices.
Last time I checked I was a grown man who made his own mind up about what gear he wants to buy, listens to plenty advice and decides which to take and which to ignore. Assume most of your customers are also the same and you won't go wrong.
As for that chap, its the first time I've popped by his forum to see how they go on having heard stuff on here. Its frankly shocking and I find it insulting he thinks we're all sheep influenced by one or two members on here.
I'm known as a mellow guy but if someone came into my local and carried on the same way well you can perhaps guess how I'd respond.
Apologies for diverting the thread but when there's bullies around sometimes you have to say enough is enough.

Indeed, Rich. Look out, though, he's now threatening to hit you with his pensioner's bus pass:
And Richard, you are very welcome to visit me anytime, my name and address is easily available, and show me how you would react to me in your local...
:uhho: :uhho:
When he gets *really* angry, though, he challenges you to a 'dance off', which turns briefly into a tickling contest, before becoming a full-blown mating ritual, known as elephantus concubitus. His 'opponent' enters the fray, showing off his new boob-job:

Even 30 years younger, he looked REALLY scary... Aye, about as scary as a plump, specky, baldy wee short arse could ever be:

Marco.
If morons were moths then that forum would be a fecking lighthouse.
I wonder if universities advise their political students to study forums as examples of Dictatorships in microcosm? T'would be a rich vein of research IMO.
If aliens only read the comments to YouTube videos they would instantly wipe us out as being dangerous to the cosmos, and they'd be right!

I heard the server yesterday at the Bristol show, a really nice piece of kit and sounded really good with the Nick Gorham dac, it was also nice to meet Gazjam who gave me a very well detailed guided tour of the server.
If I was in the market for a dedicated server then I would look no further
