I prefer a Sony Vaio as source, and an AKG K701 as transducer...

Guessing your using Windows on your laptop (XP or Vista?), then you should look into ASIO for XP of WASAPI for Vista.

These refs will get you started:

If you use MAC OS or Linux (like me) you don't need any ASIO USB Audio drivers!

Try upgrading your USB cable used to connect the 7520.

Here's one tip I can give you, if you intend to connect your PC to the 7520 via usb cable:

I know digits are digits, and USB uses a "handshake" to confirm data is sent. NEVERTHELESS, I changed a perfectly fine standard USB cable for a U.S. $30 Belkin Gold Series USB Shielded 2.0 cable, which is well-shielded, 20 AWG wire, that has gold-plated connectors and is yet very flexible .

Hooked the A end up to my Mac computer , and the B end to my Beresford TC-7520. My Lord. What a difference. It is much more easy to listen to at higher volume without any strain. Notes are richer, and it is easier to pick-out the musicians in the soundstage. Things sound effortless now, and must have been a bit strained/distorted with the standard cable.

Voodoo? I'll trust my own ears.

Cheapest darn upgrade yet for me.

YMMV.

If you're on the Windows platform, I would highly suggest using foobar as the program to play your FLAC files. it has native support for FLAC files (http://www.foobar2000.org/)

Use the ASIO plugin as the output device as the output device in foobar
(http://www.foobar2000.org/files/a53aae14f8ddfada8278382c88df3750/foo_out_asio.zip)

Use ASIO4ALL to interface the 7520 to your USB
(http://www.asio4all.com/)

Takes a bit of knocking around before you'll get it to work, but you'll eventually get it.

Do a search for "bit perfect" in Google to find out about how to get the cleanest audio stream from your computer to your audio device.

I use KM Player to play all my music and video. The KM Player plays every format under the sun and every functionality I can think of for audio and video and the quality is execellent. An added bonus of the KM Player is that it is compatible with plugins made for Winamp. For eg I currently have Graphical and Parametric EQ plugins running in real time for bass management / subwoofer intergration. You can find a plugin for almost anything too.

If you have Vista, then it's literally plug and forget regards to the 7520. Vista does everything automatically.
