View Full Version : Breaking News! - Grumpy Moderator Tells It Like It Is.

Right then, you lot who're selling stuff.

Back when AoS was just a few days old, Rob placed a few Rules for Selling (http://theartofsound.net/forum/showthread.php?t=33)

One of the rules goes like this:

ALL sales threads MUST include a photo of the actual item for sale

I can't believe how many adverts I see on AoS where this is ignored. Scanning down the list of items here, out of the first 15 sales threads, only 8 of them have photos included, so according to that sample, it's almost half of you ignoring it.

Not only is it against the rules to ignore it, but adding a photo or two will increase your chances of making a sale. So what the hell is the problem? Why is it so hard to comply with such a simple request?

Now, it makes no difference to me whether you sell your stuff or not, but you owe it to yourself to do this. Go on! Give yourself a treat - stack the odds of making a quick sale in your favour and stop your thread from being crapped on by a grumpy moderator telling you to add some photos.

In fairness it has always been a rule honoured more in the breach than the observance.

I have three things on sale just now, one of which has photos attached because it is a computer monitor and people like to view such stuff. The other two are in turn, a Gator board and a potentiometer. I can't imagine too many people are going to be aroused by viewing piccies of such boring looking items. The descriptions say it all anyway however, I am more than willing to add pics for those who get off on saucy shots of electrical components :D

Fair enough but if you are not going to post pictures of the actual item you should still have to post some sort of picture. Lindsey Lohan in a swimsuit for example.

A photograph, if nothing else, will confirm that the item is in the condition that you claim it to be. As I said before, it makes no odds to me whether your stuff sells or not, but by not adding a picture, you're effectively crapping on your own thread before you post it.

Now you bring it up, there's also a question over whether it's appropriate or not to advertise your computer monitor. But we'll not go into that any further, eh?

I checked the rules on that before I posted it up Chris and it says something along the lines that it is okay to sell related electronics, which a monitor is if you employ computer audio. Did you get out of the wrong side of the bed this morning? :stalks:

Anyways, I have posted a stock photo up of a Gator board as I am not unpacking mine again. I will post up a sexy piccy of the cardboard box and pot later... :ner:

If you like peely-wally, freckly, ginger-tufts, then I guess you might bang it, otherwise.... :nono:

Returning to the thread topic, the one that gets me is 'If there is sufficient interest, I will post pictures of [insert item for sale here]', or 'Serious buyers, PM me for pictures', as if supplying pictures of the item(s) for sale is a privilege only afforded to a selected few, where in fact the process should be automatic and taken as a given.

When folk write that, what they really mean is: 'I'm a lazy f*ck who will only put the minimum of effort into selling something. I can't be arsed posting pictures, but if you force me I'll do it. All I really want is your money, asshole, and the quicker the better!'

Well, I will assume the position so a red hot poker can be rammed up my arse sideways for being such a naughty boy :spank:

Pics have now been posted. Could members please contain themselves for these photos have been known to cause Advanced Orgasmic Syndrome. The sudden ejaculations that may result could make your monitor and keyboard sticky... :eyebrows:

Davey baby, you were the last person I was thinking about when making that observation :)

The people most guilty are those who rarely use the forum for anything else but utilising the information in the classifieds, and/or who join simply for that purpose (after posting a quick hello), and then piss off....

Lol - nothing... It's just that 'missy' (above) doesn't do much for me, most likely because the photograph is quite unflattering. Ironically, she'd probably look much better fully clothed! ;)

Hi Tom,

No worries. The rules are there, very clearly stated, as a sticky, at the top of Private Exhibitions. See here: http://theartofsound.net/forum/showthread.php?t=33 The trouble is people don't take the time to read instructions properly...

However, what mystifies me is that supplying pictures along with an ad isn't considered as automatically a common sense thing to do, especially with 'big ticket' items. I've seen ads placed here for £5k speakers, without pictures, until the seller was prompted...

I mean, would you place an ad on ebay without some accompanying pictures? Well then, I don't see any reason why it should be different on a forum.

Marco.

I was unaware of the picture rule. Apologies. To give you all a real treat I will be posting lots of pictures of cardboard boxes of varying sizes. That should perk the old peckers up eh?

So it's agreed. You must post a picture of the item you are selling or, alternatively, post a picture of a semi-naked uber-babe. Otherwise your listing will be removed.

Nah, she can cook, Dave, trust me - especially when she does oriental cuisine :)

She's certainly a far better cook than that pretentious Lawson bint, who simply bastardises classic dishes, in her inimitably disastrous way, and so desperately, and rather comically, wants to be Italian!!
