The Vinyl Adventure

From mooching about it seems rude not to introduce ones self on this site, so here i am saying hello. something i find admirable in a web site after being scared off from various other sites by people bitching at one another
i have stumbled acros this place quite a few times recently whilst looking into purchacing a beresford dac. i finaly bought one today and followed it up with a short email conversation with stanley. how nice it is to talk to the man who designs the kit. i asked him about upgrades, something im sure he must somtimes get very sick of talking about. he told me about a alternate opamp, something i know nothing about but remembered reading a great deal about on here. so here i am hoping to learn a bit more about that particular subject and hopfully in the long term much more.
i have been into hifi since i got fed up with micro systems when i was about 15. i started my real hifi life with a nad c320 and a marantz cd67 with tannoy m2s. this was partly down to what i liked the sound of and partly what i could afford.
maybe down to the influence of the man in the shop and maybe because it was always compared to arcam (i havent heard their newer stuff but 11 years ago it was boring) i always loved naim kit.
10 years later (last jan) after listening to a range of other kit it turned out i still (and this time genuinly) like the way naim kit sounds, i finally got a second hand naim hifi from the same man who first showed me it.
as he now owns his own very succesful hifi outlet and install business, and due to the fact we became good friends over the 10 year interim, he sold me a 82/180/HC with some pmc fb1+ speakers that he had taken in p/x for a quite silly small amount of money.
i have since added a cd5+fc2.
not entirly happy i am embarking on a mission to computerise my music and hifi. partly to get what i am led to belive will be a better sound, partly so i can have all my music in all rooms of my house, and party because i am terible at looking after my cds.
i am going to audition some of the linn ds kit next week for my main system in the hope that if i like it and if i sell some stuff (cd5 fc2 + my soul) i might be able to afford it.
in the meanwhile as i said i have bought a tc-7520 for my upstairs system (pc, old dynaudios, and one of the cheap but suprisingly ok sounding tripath amps) this will hopefully get me used to working with flac files and not cds.
i do also have a small vinyl collection that, when my very tatty oiginal xerxes works i do very much like to listen too
i am a photographer and i still shoot film on occation. i frequently compare camera film to vinyl, the more organic nature of both these formats to me hold the key to a better quality of sound/quality of image. unfortunatly im a slut for ease of use and reliability hense my desire for use of flac and the nikon dslrs i use for my business
i hope this gives everyone a good impression of who i am and my hifi interests/aspirations, and i hope no one thinks i have been showing off.
i hope i can learn from people here as well as teach. if anyone has any questions about photography (i know its not exactly relevent to the site) then im ya man
i look forward to chatting with you all in the future but for now my fiancee is looking at me like she wants me to stop tapping this keyboard
all the best to you all
