Computer Mouse Recommendations Wanted

Help!

I’m looking for a replacement mouse after my Apple one went wrong. What I want is a wired mouse, with simple left and right click buttons and a scroll wheel. I don’t need any extra fancy buttons for gaming.

What is important though is the feel of scroll wheel. I just bought a Logitech LS1 Laser mouse and the scroll wheel is very very notchy, and I hate it. I’ve heard that there are some mice that have a free-scroll wheel but reviews have criticised them cos the wheel actually has no friction to it at all.

It’s tricky choosing a mouse cos not many places have them out for you to try. So, can you help? Does your mouse sound like what I’m after? A simple mouse with a scroll wheel that has some feel to it but is not notchy?

I have the Microsoft trackball and have done so for at least 10 years or more. Pushing something around that skips and jumps all the time is just so primitive when rolling your thumb around is so much more efficient and precise. I do/did a lot of technical drawings and a trackball works so much better, easier to clean too :)

Not sure I could get on with a trackball guys, plus I'm not the only user on the computer so someone else would have to get used to it too.

One thing I would say is get an infra-red mouse as this eliminates the ball on the bottom which gets continually gunked up and ultimately fails. Much more precise as well. Logitech are usually a safe bet.

I bought one of these for my latest build about 4 weeks ago and before that I had the previous version for around 4 years. It is wireless but the build quality is excellent.

I'm a big fan of these mice, the scroll wheel does spin friction less, which is superb for flying through long web pages and the button to the scroll wheel rear turns on the ratchet if you prefer. They take a little getting used to, but it doesn't take long. The buttons are programmable too - I wouldn't use anything else. No idea how it would be with a MAC though as I use it with a PC.

Can't see any problem with a small wire going across the desk. Wireless has little practical advantage on a desktop computer.

The only wireless mouse I've owned which was any good I bought from Asda for £4.99. It was made by Trust and in the three and a half years I owned it I never had to change the batteries. Unfortunately I accidentally killed it. It had fallen off my desk and I stood on it as I sat down to use the computer... NARF!!!

I think much depends on the batteries used, and also how you operate the mouse. I use Duracells and switch the mouse off everytime I stop using it, even if it's only for a minute or so, and so typically, batteries last me 2 months before needing changed.

That doesn't seem too bad, and for me, eminently preferable to pissing around with wires!! :exactly:

I use mine with a laptop (as I hate the dreadful in-built ones) in conjunction with a mouse mat, which sits at the side of my armchair. Consequently, I find that wires from wired mice, crossing over my lap, are a pain in the arse, and that's before I deal with the issue of the cats chewing them! ;)

ballerkz to switching the mouse orf all the toime. Anyhoots i just use laptop with Logitech trackball mouse these days, much easier. No way on earth can i use a lappy mouse pad.

My missus had never used a trackball before after being a mouse user for years and within minutes of trying mine she wanted one too and has never dreamed of going back to a mouse :eyebrows:

Lol... That's wot an on/off switch is for, just like the ones on your hi-fi system, or light switches, or on your Ladyshave, nasal hair remover, curlers, etc - you switch 'em on an orf, doncha...? :eyebrows:

Not sure if microsoft mice work with macs but I use a Microsoft wireless 2000.

Decent size and the battery last ages and I don't like wires on mice.

I bought one of these a few months ago. Best mouse I've ever owned - a bit expensive but it feels solid, has a series of weights so you can change the handling for comfort and the wheel can be unlocked from the clicking if you need to spin it to move around quickly. There is also a couple of buttons that quickly change the sensitivity. I don't do much gaming as such, just wanted a decent mouse (wired) works well and wasn't tiring to use as I spend 8 - 10 hours a day on the PC for work. (Sad I know)
