A little speaker advice please

My humble setup was functioning beautifully until about 3pm on Saturday when it started to sound flat. Reason being one of the drivers on my PMC GB1's had decided to expire!
The code on't label is M13WG-05 which research leads me to believe is made by Vifa

I've got an inquiry off for a replacement but my question is this.

If I can't replace it for reasons of non availability or ridiculous price is it feasible to find something that fits (near enough) but perhaps a bit more sensitive i.e @90Db+.

Would the existing crossover be OK or not, is it suck it and see?:scratch:

Thanks Scott. Yes they're on my list of phone calls for Monday morning. Can't find a precise fit n the website but there is an alternative in there.

The PMC drivers are 140mm diameter with four bolts on a 132mm circle diameter.
I browsed around for the last couple of days until my brain started spinning, but couldn't find a current match.

Keep an eye on eBay, you'd be amazed at the quantity and variety of drive units that come up for sale. It would be only a matter of time before the one you need came along.

Eyes everywhere, there's a pair in Italy but he wants 80 euro each plus post.
Spoke to Falcon Acoustics and they pointed me in the direction of Wembley Speakers. I think I'll send the unit off to them to have a nosey at.

Meanwhile still waiting on a reply from PMC.......

Missing the music though, may have to buy a temporary set of speakers and sell on when mine are sorted.....

When you do get replacement drivers check that the amp hasn't gone faulty and killed them. Could save you time and money.

Any particular test in mind? Bit of a new area for me so sorry if I ask daft questions

If there is dc on the output of the amp it will probably blow whatever you hook up to it. Speakers don't like dc up 'em.

PMC aren't the best for answering e-mails. Have you tried phoning to check price and availability ?

Well I got an answer today via one of their dealers. In stock for £76.00 delivered, I'm quite happy. Earlier I'd sent the suspect unit of for repair at a quoted price of 54.00 all in.
Now I'll have a spare unit for backup , just in case!

Right I'm off to check the amp output and clean it inside.
