View Full Version : Do U leave the toilet seat up or down?
I spent the longest part of my life single.
When a women came over or stayed for a while it was always "put the toilet seat down" (I fell in !)
I'd tell her No! and remember to leave it up!
If I get up in the middle of the night drunk and pee all over the toilet seat because you put it down "you're cleaning it up" and if it's down I will pee on it.
Makes as much sense to me as not looking before you sit down and falling in,so I have kept this as my only rule in the house,we leave the seat up.
It brings loads of feedback from every female guest (when they read the little sign TOILET SEAT IS TO REMAIN UP WHEN NOT IN USE.)
Today my lovely wife Nosheen brought it to my attention that other men put the seat down, seems she has been getting man training pointers from her sister or a friend.
I told here I love her very much, but I will always leave the seat up and tell who ever your feminist friend is, she can bake me some cookies!
Any other men here still the king of his Royal Thrown ?
Or am I just an Arss ?
Look before you park your arss... I fell in... give me a break.
Hey Fellow bipedal peers if you want to see where you stand, and validate your man card try getting through all of February while leaving the seat up.
Don't let her know your reason just ask her nicely to leave it up for you. It could be an eye opener.
Disclaimer I Goraman am not responsible for the murders or other mayhem, divorces ect... That may en cure from acting on this thread.
And do not forward this thread to Ophra what ever you do.
I put the seat down otherwise it makes the bathroom look untidy. Besides that, I have a pooch which is not averse to lapping the toilet water... :eyebrows:

As far as making the bathroom look untidy,I didn't say not to flush.

I always leave mines 'UP' for the same reason as you've given, it's simply more hygienic, as a single man i hate cleaning toilets.

Welcome brother Andy, I see the making of a mens movement here for mens rights all we need is some hippy folk singers and a cool logo.
Maybe a raised toilet seat, a lifted lid with the male symbol embolden on it.
Maybe a super secret society with a cool secret code hand shake....:D
LEAVE THE SEAT UP FOR THE MONTH OF FEBRUARY GUYS!!!! MAN POWER!!!
Lol, Jeff.... Thanks for making me think of something I've never needed to think of before!
Ours stays up (as shown in the pic below), simply out of practicality, as at the end of the day, both males and females have to lift the top lid to use the facilities!! ;) Del's not the type either to bother her arse about such things (no pun intended) :eyebrows:
I don't buy the 'untidy' argument either... How does that work? Maybe if you have one of those horrible modern plastic things, which look much worse up than down. If you're talking about the bottom lid, that always stays down, as it looks a bit silly otherwise.
Our bog seat is made from Zebrano wood, so it looks 'cool' up or down, and we have a proper old-fashioned toilet with a cistern and chain:
http://img89.imageshack.us/img89/1964/img0003jy.jpg (http://img89.imageshack.us/i/img0003jy.jpg/)
Ignore the disabled adaptor on the seat. It's an old photograph from when we were looking after Del's dad.
Marco.

Down when not in use
Both up for a pee ( Lid and seat )
Lid up seat down for a N0 2"s
Then after use both back down
Easy :)
And I live on my own so my rules ;)
Down- unless being used of course:)
Team hug Jeff, seems more 'up' than we thought. :)
I'm house trained! Leave it down. :D
However, theres a more important reason why though, every time you flush with the lid up you 'aerosol spray' the bathroom with a viral and bacterial mist of toilet water along with a certain amount of fecal matter. :spew: Nice!
Always down with the lid down - dropped too many things down there! ;)

Eh...Neal !!!, i don't have that kinda power in my cistern, no shit...you sure you don't have a jetwash tucked in there.:D
Jeff, can we have a thread next please on how many sheets of arse-wipe you use after a jobby session, and whether or not you tear off the required amount pre or post 'droppage' (or if you're a folder of them neatly beforehand)? :D

Dont need one! :eyebrows: That Doctor fellow, he was on Horizon last night about fitness, presented a program last year where he performed an experiment with a bunch of 20 somethings at a party...put infrared sensitive dye in the loo and monitored how much of the contents got spread over the bathroom during the evening...you would be truly shocked at where it all ended up!
Here's another one....where do you keep your toothbrushes? If not in a cabinet...where?.. on the side of the sink? And if the sink is next to the loo like it is in many houses it doesn't need a genius to work out where your toilet water ends up!

The only time I put the seat down is if I can't flush my jobbies which are incredibly buoyant and resist three flushes/loads of paper. I should sell them to the RNLI.
In our house the seat and lid is kept down when not in use. It is a compromise between me and the missus to stop any more arguments. What pisses me off is her daughter uses the toilet and ALWAYS leaves the lid up, so the bog then looks like it's yawning
I prefer the lid down anyway because I sit on it to dry myself with a towel after a bath or shower, plus have seen a mobile phone or two make a break from freedom down there leaping from a shirt pocket
My missus said that German men have been "trained" to use the toilet sitting down at all times. She aint winning that war, nossir :mental:
At last- a subject that I know something about, as I'm in the trade :)
The official line is that you must put the seat and cover back down when you've finished. Failure to do so will render you liable to severe nagging from the other half ;)
@ Covenant, you either have a defective/weak cistern or you eat too much polystyrene!
@ Marco, nice bathroom - what is that flooring you've got there?

Seriously, Marco your bathroom is the coolest I have seen, ours is also black and white with a black and white checkered board floor.
As far as jet wash goes, not from a 1.6 gallon toilet with the water pressure we have. An older toilet with nearly 3 gallon flush and loads of pressure maybe.

Best to keep it down because helps prevent airborne bacteria's lingering in the air. Obviously you can't prevent them all, but it does help.

Same here André however I have to. As for not buying the untidy argument Marco, my house, my rules bud. I note you failed to comment on the blue tongued dog situation... :ner:
@ Marco, nice bathroom - what is that flooring you've got there?
Cheers, Martin. We designed the look ourselves and bought most of the bits from a company called Heritage Bathrooms (if you're interested, see here: http://www.heritagebathrooms.com/epages/Heritage.sf), so you won't find the finished product 'off the shelf' at any high street 'bathroom superstore' ;)
The flooring is different colours of Welsh slate intermingled together, which comes in large sheets, and is laid down that way. You oil the slate, with special oil, which brings up the natural lustre and graining of the slate. The whole thing acts as a wet room.
As I'm 6ft 2ins, I also like (need) a big bath, so I can stretch out fully and have a nice soak, whilst relaxing listening to some tunes, and for me you can't beat a nice big free-standing cast-iron enamelled bath... Yes, there are also built-in waterproof speakers on the ceiling, which supply music from my system upstairs - well it would be rude not to! :eyebrows:
If you look closely, just to the right of the vent on the L/H wall, you can just see the tip of one of the speakers on the ceiling. There is also 'mood lighting', achieved with the use of a series of spotlights (with coloured bulbs), fitted to the ceiling, controlled by a dimmer switch, in order to provide a nice chilled-out experience at night, should one not wish to use candles.
At the other end, which you can't see, we've got a stainless steel power shower (water-mains powered, not electric), with a a 12" stainless steel shower head... It's like standing under the Niagara falls, as it drenches you!! :D
It's certainly a nice space to be in. The whole project took quite a while to complete, but it was worth it in the end. You should've seen the bollocks that was there before it, left by the previous owner!

What a load of crap (pun intended)! The two videos essentially contradict one another. And is it not a little suspicious that the second video was made by some outfit called superbrands.inc, who one assumes will happily sell you all sorts of unecessary bathroom hygine products?
I have been happily flushing toilets with the lid up all my life, and I've never suffered food poisoning by that vector.
We are becoming obsessed with hygine - to the point that for some young children, their immune system is not given a chance to develop with the result that the slightest bug will floor them. Everyone needs a "peck of dirt" to start up their immune system.
I do agree, Barry.
We all like a nice clean house, within reason, but I've never understood the mentality of (particularly some women) and their obsession for pristine cleanliness throughout the house, so much so that they clean their homes 2-3 times a day, as they can't stand even a speck of dust... Yes, I know daftees like this!
Everything is bleached to buggery!! :mental: It's an utter nonsense, as homes are to be lived in, not wrapped up in cotton wool and 'displayed' as an ornament, or scrubbed clean to surgical standards!
Like you say, no wonder kids these days catch every cold or bug going, as their natural immune systems have been not been allowed to develop by over-zealous parents with an obsession for surgical sanitation....
Marco.

I suspect that your toilet is not on open view in your kitchen, so you'd be unlikely to get food poisoning from that direction :eyebrows:

For your bathroom sound system, which speakers and amp do you have? I've got some nice big Sonance ceiling units in the bedroom :eyebrows: driven by an old Sony mini system. Definitely does the business with a bit of Barry White playing in the background :D
BTW, Ive been given some special transducers by a local specialist multi room music installer to try in our bathrooms. The transducers sit inside stud walls or above the ceiling and they use the wall board as the sound generating surface. Initial tests on the underside of a kitchen breakfast bar were quite encouraging. Gonna install them in my shower room at home at the weekend to see how they compare with conventional in-ceiling speakers.
Cheers

In the '80s and '90s I used to spend so much time in the pub (from opening time to throwing out time, five nights a week), that often not only could I not remember what I had had to drink, nor how much, but I could not remember how I got home.
Yet despite this, I always seemed to have got undressed, put my clothes (reasonably) neatly on the bedside chair and put myself to bed. I should also add that I didn't piss all over the toilet. Don't ask me how I did it!
Lol... You think it was YOU who did that? Nah, it was the fat bird with a beard who brought you home and tucked you in bed!
Trouble is, you can't remember how you 'thanked' her - or indeed ANYTHING about her!!

Up. Always up. I also find it is best to take care of as much business as possible whilst at work. Not only are they picking up the tab for the bog roll - and let's face it it's not cheap - but you get paid for your time too. That's a win - win.

Hi Martin,
Sorry, I missed this earlier...
Very nice - slate is fantastic in a bathroom.
Good choice with the Heritage products - we fit mainly contemporary stuff, but always had good experience with their quality and customer service. Definitely can't say the same for b&q or Bathstore
Bathstore {cough}! :wanker:
Our house is an old lodge, dating from 1887, so we like to keep things traditional, but with a contemporary twist, which was the goal with the bathroom we designed.
For your bathroom sound system, which speakers and amp do you have? I've got some nice big Sonance ceiling units in the bedroom :eyebrows: driven by an old Sony mini system. Definitely does the business with a bit of Barry White playing in the background :D
Lol - sounds good! I don't think that the speakers I have are anything special. I didn't want to go too daft, so I think I paid about £60 for them (just to have some sounds in there). However, I use them on the end of my main system (as shown in my sig), so the sound produced, despite the less than wonderful speakers, is pretty impressive... It just goes to show how important other things are in a system, apart from the speakers! ;)
The guy who fitted the speakers, connected the speaker cable at the speaker end (good quality Van Damme stuff) and then buried all the at that end into the ceiling, drilled a small hole on the outside wall, and took the cable from there up into my listening room, and then terminated in some quality banana plugs.
Therefore, whenever I want music in the bathroom, all I have to do is swap my main speaker cables, at the back of the amp, for the ones for the bathroom speakers... It works a treat and sounds way better than probably the majority of alternatives. Should I wish to upgrade the speakers at a later date, then that could be easily done, especially if I go for bigger ones.
A game I like to play sometimes is when we have visitors staying over, and when they pop in to have a shower, I go upstairs and connect the bathroom speakers up, fire on some AC/DC, or something equally 'invigorating' first thing in the morning, turn up the volume, and give them the biggest fright of their lives...!! :D
What I really want to do, though, is connect up a microphone, and instead of playing music, say in a funny voice: 'I can see your dangly bits through the spy-hole'!!!
Marco.

Personally, I feel that if the paper is hanging outwards then it's not touching anything else, and don't ask me why, but that's a good thing.
