For those interested, the new series begins tonight at 8pm on BBC2. Jeremy attempts to build a car that's even smaller than a Peel P50 and tests it on the streets of London :cool:
OMG am I the only person here who would rather stick pins in their eyes than watch this tripe :(
Each to their own I guess . . . Interest Check for Top Gear :eek: maybe I'm just weird or I've lost it or something.

I regret to say that I have been in anticipation of this momentous event all week. We only get three shows a year now, don't forget. I think the BBC rather regret creating the Golem that is 'Top Gear'. Boo hoo.

Maybe you're not into cars enough, Tim? I love TG, although I do find Clarkson often very irritating!

Nope - I can't abide Top Gear either.
Looking forward to it but will have to watch it later as we have the inlaws in for Sunday roast

This show is running very close to jumping the shark. If it didn't already. What a shame.
I had to look up that saying Martin as I've not come across it before. The first three quarters of the show were up to par but the last segment with Clarkson's stupid mini-car was a bit dire, it smacked of being cobbled together in a hurry and I don't just mean the P45...

Top gear is a great show. Its one of the only times i get a nice quite room (usually the back bedroom :doh:) where I can have a drink a whiskey or three and have a good laugh and for seven weeks of the year it makes me happy, nuff said:)

I am not into cars, or the show as it stands these days. I used to watch the old version of top gear, and found it informative etc. These days for me its a bunch of annoying boy racers with a Tv show.

It's just 'boys toys' and harmless fun.
I enjoy it anyway, even if it does get a bit silly here and there.
I'll never forget the Reliant Robin space project, even if it did end in disaster, it was brilliantly done!

I enjoy it mostly , Clarkson's idiocy can be infuriating ! But if the show were to return to its early 80's informative style , I'd rather watch Xfactor lol or paint dry !

There is always Fith Gear for those who want a more traditional motoring show. I think the reason for 'new' Top Gear's worldwide popularity is that it is a motoring show with some idiocy thrown in. For example the show in which Clarkson and May go to China to scope out the new chinese cars - very informative but also very funny with the antics of the 'chinese Stig'. The danger is if they throw out all of the motoring stuff and just do idiocy. Without the serious context to ofset it then the idiocy won't be funny any more.

Fifth Gear is a bit dull though. It has two charismatic contributors, Tiff and VBH, but the others (who's names I can't even remember) are pretty bland and give the impression they don't really know much about cars anyway.

No Top Gear more often than not , puts a smile on my face :)
I detest it when they take the piss out of the locals , on those overseas specials ! Like the Indian adventure for example , that was cringing :(

I used to enjoy Top Gear, particularly the challenges such as driving old british made cars across the desert and in the jungle etc. However since Jeremy Clarkson became an apologist for and a mate of this awful government we have, then he has been resigned to the great media dustbin in the sky as far as I'm concerned. Along with everything that is on ITV, any Murdoch affiliated publications and channels and the Royal Family in any guise.
I love TG but these days tend to view it more as a sitcom than a motoring magazine. Like Martin I found the episode in China very funny, though from my experience traveling there not to be accurate. I guess with Clarkson you either love him or hate him but it's hard to see the show working without him.
How long before Hammond and May's other commitments terminally affect TG's future, because that is how I see it going... :eyebrows:

You cannot take TG too seriously as it is well known to be scripted. Yes I agree it is more of a sitcom which makes it pretty harmless but still largely informative and entertaining. It is one of the very few shows BBC could make any money from and that should be applauded. Being commissioned for 19 series is a big achievement anyway you want to look at it.
I enjoy TG simply because it is pure comedy entertainment - something severely lacking these days on TV. Clarkson is scripted to be a complete knob, so too is May in some ways but that's what makes it work.
It would be even better for me though if they completely took out the expensive supercars features because when you have seen one megabucks car spinning around wearing tyres out rapidly in a thick pall of rubber smoke you have seen them all, plus in all honesty who is likely to be tempted by any car losing grip and doing a four wheel slide round a corner - my 10 year old Volvo at a fraction of the price don't do dat :lol:

sat and watched it last night with wifey and kids, very good on the whole although i found the Dragons Den part a bit crap, the rest of the p45 thing had me in stitches
