When I visited the site there were about 300 tourists walking all over the place - not a good photo!
I hiked around to the south and did a bit of rock climbing to get to this vantage point.
Waiting for the sun to set and the tourists to leave, a big thunder storm came through, clearing out all of the people.
Got a few shots off before the sun set behind some clouds.
Hiked back to the car in the dark with my headlamp.

Here is a shot of me (taken by my wife) as we waited on the cliff to get this shot.
Hard to tell but my foot is at the edge of the cliff.

Thanks, all mine from 20 years of world traveling.
Many were taken as film and scanned.
From 2002 I started using all digital.
Really too many to post here, but this is a good taste of some of the highlights.

I'm not a fan of Digital camera but any possibiliy of using old 60's/70's frog eyed lenses with those Digital camera?

Not sure about the old lens.
I use to have an old Nikkor 16mm Fisheye that worked fine with my Nikon F3.
Just no auto-focus and had to stop down to meter the shot.

Ah right Gregg, i always called them Frog-Eyed lenses, i guess then they maybe compatable with a bit of work, love your pictures but they do look too resolute for me being a 60's/early 70's obsessive... Digital film is kinda like hifi, where as people get dragged into the high resolution/highly attactive imagery of film, the same with digital sound, they loose the reality of them not actually hearing/looking real!

I use to have a darkroom with film, so I really like the control and flexibility of using PhotoShop with digital.
The trick is not being too "heavy-handed" so the photography comes through without looking manipulated.

Magnificient Gregg, the close up of the hand and a peek of the face in the background does it for me,
it conveys wisdom and a liftime of stories to be told of life's journey, very good.

André, unlike modern tv and hifi after 70's, you can manipulate how you view hi-res photo's, don't clean your glasses. :D

I know what Andre means, and can see it myself: digital photography, much like digital sound, in *some* ways, can be too 'crisp' and 'squeaky clean', and so can appear as unnatural and false.

The best film photography, on the other hand, appears to retain the natural warmth and 'patina' of real images, making them seem more lifelike to the naked eye, than digital images.

However, I have to say that Gregg has made a remarkable job of using digital software, in order that this effect is mimimised, creating truly superb pictures in the process!! :)

Some stunning images there Gregg, thanks! If you don’t mind I’d like to ask you advice on lenses and the best one for me as you are taking the kind of shots I hope to in the future, a bit of a mixture in terms of subjects and distance but I would like to take a lot of travel pictures perhaps I might need a little more zoom than you use in those example as I think wildlife could be a focus for me, although portrait and landscape too.

I have just got a Canon 650d which came with a 18-55mm lens, it is fine for subjects a few feet away or landscapes but doesn’t really have the zoom, I’m torn between 18-135 and 55-250, which do you think would be better for someone starting out like me?

I didn't say better, just that the results are usually more natural looking, to my eyes. Now, you don't have my eyes, so how can you say what I'm seeing is "hogwash"? ;)

Fair enough Marco. I felt a 'digital is less valid' theme was emerging, which I think is open to strong challenge. But perhaps not on Gregg's thread!

I think we all agree Gregg has the 'eye' for a great picture.
