Like over 30's at night clubs- looks embarrassing.

each to their own though, although by the time you've finished messing about you could have bought a real one.

Mikey, until you get that 'pick & mix' creation of yours spinning tunes properly I'll happily settle for the music the old nail makes! :lolsign:

;)

If I was going to buy anything from the guy on Ebay it would be this:

http://cgi.ebay.de/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=190254721564

At least it includes a 103 and the shell has been removed, too! Or this, which looks like quite a nice (if pricey) transformer:

Nice one, Dave. I thought you might end up doing something like that :)

So what's the plan?

Put one of my new Cartridge Stabilisers in it, then add the DL-103SA

Hi Marco

Here is the The Cartridge Stabiliser

http://www.soundhifi.com/Stabiliser.jpg

It gives all the advantages of an Audio Technica 18 gram headshell with none of the hassle. It's 8 grams in weight and a Jelco shell is 12 grams, so you get 20 grams, just about right for the Denon DL-103. The soft copper is nicer than the hard aluminium, in my humble opinion. It also raises the arm and cartridge at tad, very useful on the SL-1200 series.

Me want one - so please arrange for it to be ready for my arrival on Tuesday, sir! :)

Ooooh...that looks shweeet :)

Dave - do you by any chance supply longer bolts with the stabiliser? It's just that the ones I have (the longest ones in the SME nuts & bolts kit) are only just long enough for the 103+Thru's ballast plate+Sumiko headshell. Your copper spacer looks to be a bit thicker than Thru's brass plate.

makes my beefy spacer look a bit OTT :lolsign:

Hi Richard, the longest plated brass screws I have are 20mm but I have some 25mm on order. You are welcome to some for free. If you need them longer, I'll have a look.

Marco, yes, I have a " The Cartridge Stabiliser " waiting for you, if nothing else they are an object of desire.

It must be a generation thing (U old Pheka's) I have no idea what the point would be o f using these. Also whats the other auctions where they have put cartridges in blocks of wood about?? No one loves a good block of nice looking wood more than me but.............

Pauly baby, I'm not into the wood block thing either, hence why I started the thread. I was firmly in the "cack" camp ;)

However, 'nuding' a 103 and putting a nice wooden body-shell on it (as per the example I highlighted) is a different ball game altogether. I also dig retro, so love the look of SPU headshells. Dave will I'm sure make a great job of putting a 103SA inside his and the high mass will suit it down to the ground

I have dealt with these people, though for the life of me, can't remember what it was for. Regarding the 're-housing' of Denon 103 cartridges, either in wood or aluminium (Zu), does anyone have any experiences they can share?

Regards

Barry
