How long does your "fix" last for?

My latest acquisition, the Usher CP 6371's have had pride of place in my system since November I believe it is, and literally blew me away when I first listened to them.

Now, I'm not looking at replacing them anytime soon, but, as with the additional other bits that hit Chez Craig, they, and all the other stuff brought into the system last year has become, well, normal again, as I've gotten used to how it sounds, so I was just wondering how long the new kit buzz lasts for you?

I suppose in Jerry's case I'd expect a week and a half? :lol:

Much of my gear twenty to forty years old, but I get a kick out of what it can do every time I listen to it (it is rather good).

Well my last fix is approaching 18 months old now and I anticipate it will last many, many years, maybe even for as long as I'm around ;)

Bought stuff seems to do between 6-18 months. Anything more than that is a real keeper. DIy stuff is in constant flux.

I bought a second hand amplifier nearly 30 years ago, ever since that ive bought hundreds of amps but always come back to the same old amp! Speakers again what i originally bought are still in use. Once bitten i say..

Until recently, I have had most of my kit for 28 years, I still have the same speakers, I haven't heard any that are substantially better yet.

I had my amps for 27 years and my last pre-amp for 8 years, to be fair IMO quality gear does give good service for years. I kept my kit because I was very happy with it.
I dare say the new amps I've just bought will be my last, they are superb and they will last for years.

I get my "buzz" every time I play my system and it still amazes me how much musical information that can be retrieved from records.

It's an involuntary reaction when the hair on your head stands up when one hears something moving, it happens to me often when I listen to music on my system.
I do understand however that some are still searching for a positive musical experience and that some enjoy swapping equally matched equipment just for the fun and experience of it.

ive calmed down recently and have sold a lot of gear but this funded some upgrades to my 301;) I bought a SUT in Jaunary and already have a hankering for a new phonostage (valve and ss) and some new valve monoblocks. Im hopeless.

The system has regular changes of source components (CD player, DACs), but the amps and speakers are constant. Nothing is new, but has been modified and may be tweaked on occasions necessitating it's inclusion for evaluation purposes.

What I regularly play around with is adding and taking away additional speakers in order to play with the phasing. It is really interesting how the coherence and depth of sound can change so dramatically. One week I will have it n phase, the other out of phase. I know how to have fun me.....:D

My last fix was just about a year ago and it is still going ok every time I listen so I guess the answer is, over a year.

Strangely enough, about 7 years between major changes in the main system, but the upstairs system is unchanged since 1998, apart from new speakers in 2010 to replace the ones bought in 1984 that finally went kaput.

Back in the day, I used to have complete system changeovers every 3-4 years, just to get to own/hear different things. It was the listening and researching involved in leading up to system build up (with a lot of different equipment thrown in the mix:)); that's what I considered my "fix".
I am perfectly happy with what I've got now - don't anticipate any real changes in the near or distant future. Perhaps some minor alterations, ie a new cartridge or a new tonearm just for the sake of it.:cool:

Been into Hi Fi since I was 18, 50 now. I've truly enjoyed messing about with loads of stuff, especially vintage, but it's coming to a close now. Can't see the amplification going (Croft stuff) and the Harbs would need to be prized from my cold dead hands. And everybody knows CD players all sound the same ;-).
