Hello from Derby too.

Saw some interesting discussions and thought I'd join.

Hello Phil and welcome to AoS. Could you tell us a little about your system and musical tastes?

Hi Martin

Tried to make a reply earlier. Started it, got a cup of tea, and in that short time was logged out and lost quite a long response. :( Still probably saved you all a long drawn out waffle ;o)

My musical tastes are rather broad, running from Soul Coughing to Rachmaninoff via Miles Davis, Bach, Massive Attack, Peter Gabriel, Tori Amos, Johnny Cash, Nick Cave, Mozart and of course the Floyd. Missed many of my favorites out.

Oh can't believe I just forgot the Chili Peppers, oh and....... this could take some time :o) You get the idea.

Very briefly, my system consists of a set of five Monitor Audio Studio 6s. I had these made for me (quite some time ago) with some modifications to the standard model. I run these with a couple of modified REL subs. I often change my electronics as I am a sound engineer and often come across bits and pieces of studio/pro gear. Currently running a Yamaha RX-V3010 that came my way. Have to say I'm very surprised at the imaging and control this AV amp has in Pure Direct mode. Even when being streamed to from my iPad. Would have never considered this. Just happened across the feature while fiddling around with the setup. Mad the way things are going...

Anyway need to go to bed now, busy day tomorrow.

Best

P.

Hi Phil - welcome to AoS from me too.

Re. the timing out thing - next time you log on, when you fill in your user name & password, tick the little box that's marked 'Remember Me' (or something like that). Otherwise, you're gone after 15 minutes!

Cheers & welcome once again.

Good eclectic tastes there, Phil. Speaking of pro-audio gear, I was impressed by my son's Carvin amp which I tried in my system last week for a bit of fun. Great value bit of kit!

Thanks Chris

Yes, pro amps can often be quite surprising. However, they are more often than not more brawn than finesse. I don't have any experience with Carvin, but Crown and Lab Gruppen have often delighted.
