Squeezebox 3 replacement power supply

I would like to replace the power supply on the Squeezebox 3 with something better. Been looking for most of the day for going down the DIY route, but some threads seem to relate to parts no longer available.

Is this a good choice at a reasonable price?

The linear PSU you've linked to should be up to the job.

Any of the current crop of linear PSUs for the Squeezebox Touch will also be up to the job too.

That would work although when you add the VAT it is £87.59 which is nearly as much as a power supply designed for the Touch and Classic.

Some dealers that sell much more expensive PSU criticise it to customers so they can sell them more expensive PSU's but people that have tried both know this is all you really need :)

As always the only way to be sure is to try for yourself.

I recently upgraded to one of the Mark Grant PSU's after the Maplin PSU I had been using died (I used it with an S-Booster as well). There is a noticable improvement with my SBT but it it quite subtle but may be that's becuase I already used the S-Booster.

+1 for the MG power supply. I have bought a number of cables from MG, excellent service each time with the comfort of knowing you are dealing with a UK supplier.

Considering the cost of my original suggestion, this seems to be good value for money. I may be putting in an order soon.

Hi Chris, I already use an S Booster, just the £27.50 device, not the whole thing, and wifey wouldn't let me spend too much on a PSU as I had the Ushers before Xmas, and at that she thought they only cost half of what I told her!
Anyway, I'm digressing.......I had one of Dave's PSU's that he very kindly loaned me, but I could not detect any improvement, so am just wondering if this cheapo by comparison Maplin unit will bring an improvement to the table?

I'm not entirely convinced of any Maplin power supply being better. You're replacing one SMPS with another and they're made in China too! It seems the VN10L they used to stock is now a SMPS not a linear one.

Most of the linear psu's are made in china, mine (Nick Gorham designed and built in the UK) is vastly up-gradable. The fuse, fuse holder, cabling, dc plug and mains lead can all be changed for something better as funds allow, totally unique within the industry I reckon. Hi-Fi Choice 5 star awarded as well. Of course the internal mods for the SB do make it better still especially the enhanced digital output.
